I don't know how delicate your hair is, and that could a major factor in what works for you!. Please check the sources below to decide what suits your hair!. However! The question isn't how short your hair is, it's really about (1) what your itchy scalp looks like (you might need a dermatologist), and/or (2) how thick your hair is and whether you wear a hat most of the time!.

Many skin illnesses can flare on your scalp with visible symptoms, but with all that hair up there, the symptoms are hard to see!.If you have silvery plaques, weeping sores (the ones from scratching don't count), and/or thick red or yellow crusts on your scalp, SEE A DERMATOLOGIST!!! The doctor can prescribe shampoo that helps much better than anything off the shelf!.

When you know for certain your skin isn't sick, start thinking about your hair and scalp and why all those products you've tried haven't worked!. Why is your itching worse when you sweat!?

Have you ever heard of "swimmers' ear!?" The ear retains moisture after swimming, showering, or even being slept on in humid weather!. Then it hurts and itches inside!. The drugstore sells drops that dry out the excess moisture and the pain and itching goes away!. I had Swimmers' Ear every summer when I swam!. It felt like the scalp irritation I always had!.

My hair is dry, coarse, curly, short, and very thick!. Back in the day, I tried all kinds of moisturing shampoos and conditioners because my hair was so dry!. But I had dandruff, and (excuse the "ick" factor) a thick layer of soft dead skin on my scalp, and the more I moisturized my hair, the more my scalp itched!. What I think was happening--and it sounds like it *might be* your problem, too--was that under my thick hair, dry though it was, my scalp stayed too moist!. Does the skin under your hair (or hat) stay a little moist!?

I looked up the products you mentioned trying!. If your scalp tends to be too damp, you should avoid oil-based conditioners like Motion Oil Sheen and Emu Oil!. Look for "dimethecone" as an active ingredient when you need to condition!. It's a silicone-based product, different from natural oils that clog your pores, and would be worth an experiment!.

Of the shampoos you wrote about, there were a couple I'd use with caution!. The active ingredient in Nizoral is ketoconazole, which sticks to the scalp!. Head & Shoulders uses pyrithione zinc, and I don't know how that works, but the shampoo also includes moisturizers, which you don't want if your scalp is damp!. Selsun Blue applies selenium sulfide in varying concentrations; some formulations are moisturizing, some are not!. I found the original helpful!. Neutrogena T-Gel relies on coal tar, or coal tar and menthol, to give you relief!. Coal tar used to be the only active ingredient mfrs had to make dandruff shampoos!. I tried it from several brands and never got any relief using it, plus, in the old days, it smelled like tar! So did my hair!. I hope the makers have fixed that by now!? Coal tar doesn't seen to have any drying qualities, although I imagine the menthol feels nice!.

After years of alternating plain old shampoo with Selsun Blue, I tried Neutrogena T-Sal, salicylic acid sounded like a good, drying active ingredient!. The acid is a mild drying agent like the stuff I put in my ears for Swimmers' Ear!. The first time I used it, I did a little towel dance of joy! MY SCALP DIDN'T ITCH! For me, it was the best shampoo I've ever tried!. I have to follow the instructions exactly to find relief, no shortcuts, yet I can live with "lather, wait, rinse, repeat!."

Giving in and letting my dry hair be dry, because the T-Sal dries my hair while it dries my scalp, has been a small price to pay!. I wash my hair less often to make up for the dryness!. I'm still looking for a mousse or a spray or something that will moisturize without undoing the shampoo, though!. Maybe I'll try the simethecone conditioners!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is a product called Scalpicin that you could try!. However since all the other products did not work I doubt Scalpicin will!. My suggestion is to continue using Head and Shoulders or Nizorol and oil your scalp with a scalp oil!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

dude, you probably have lice or smoething; either that or you're having an alergic reaction to something in the shampoo
what i would do is go get my head checked and if there's no lice, then try a different shampoo until the itching stops
if that doesn't work still, you might want to see a doctorWww@Answer-Health@Com

You are working from the outside in!. You need to work from the inside out!. Change your diet to include more green leafy vegetables and whole grains and nuts!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had something similar and was prescribed Nizoral - did you use it corrrectly - it has to stay on the head for at least 10 minutes before you wash it off!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Best bet is to speak to your Doctor, they may be able to prescribe you something betterWww@Answer-Health@Com
