Answers:
As long as the blood he notices is bright red, this is probably not serious; it's probably bleeding due to an anal fissure (small cut just in side the anus, or on or around the anal sphincter)!.

He should see his doctor if:

it continues to happen for more than two weeks;
if there is an increase in the amount of blood passed;
if the colour of the blood darkens; or
if he experiences pain when passing a motion!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

if the blood is bright red and urrrm near the surface it's mostly likely to be too much wiping, or a sores or piles on or near the anus!. Nothing major to worry about, although if it happens all the time, seek medical advice!.

If the blood is actually in the faeceas it could be a sign of an infection and probably worth being checked out by the doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The blood you would have to worry bout would be black not red!. If it is red it is just some tearing around the sphincter!. As I recall it is called a fissure!.
