Does anyone have Crohn's Disease that suffers with extreme Constipation???!

Question: Does anyone have Crohn's Disease that suffers with extreme Constipation!?!?!?
I'm currently 15 years old!. I've been having problems with my digestive system for about 2 years!. I suffer from extreme constipation!. The only thing that really helps me is if I just pop a laxitive whenever I get too constipated!. ( yes I know that's not healthy)!. I've been reading on the internet about Crohn's Disease and constipation can be one of the symptoms, but its rare because most people have diareaha!. I have expeirenced all the other classic symptoms of Crohn's except I have extreme Constipation!.I have pain off and on!. I go a couple of months without too much pain!.I normally get pain on my lower right abdominal and now I've been having this sharp pain in the middle of my abdominal like in the area of my small intestine!.I've had a colonscopy and an endonoscopy and they came back normal, but they don't check all of your small intestine when they preform that, so its is possible to have inflamation in your small intestine!?I'd love to talk with someone who shares this!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

hi rebecca, I am a female crohn's pt!. dxed at the age of 12, have been living w/it for 28yrs!. now!. People with Crohn's can have either the big "D" or constipation!. I've had both along with severe abdominal pain, bleeding at times, fatigue, joint pain sometimes but is worse now that I am much older, low grade fever, distended stomach due to gas build up, and a major flare up during that time of the month!.

In order to check the small intestines, the GI would order an endoscopy where they'd stick a camera down the person's throat while they are sedated!. I've had it several times and don't remember a darn thing!.

The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America has a website you can go to for tons of information!. They have a live chat & a hotline that is run by healthcare experts well versed in IBD as well as a forum where anybody can post questions to others in the same situation!. CCFA has many support chapters throughout the USA where folks w/IBD meet to swap info and attend educational meetings on living with this illness!.

When I was first dxed, nothing showed up on the colonoscopy or bloodwork!. My GI went with his "gut instinct" based upon my physical symptoms---the big D and C, fatigue, abdominal pain, low grade fever, and sometimes blood!. He dxed me with Crohn's & treated me until it actually showed up on a small bowel follow through xray
when I was 16!. There was inflammation that finally showed up in my large intestines & that was all that he needed for proof that his dx was correct!. There is a blood test out cld Prometheus to test for UC or CD!. Most insurance companies don't cover it though!.

Definitely give the CCFA website a try!. Get a 2nd opinion!. You are entitled to that!. hope this info helps you out!. good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

i dont have crohns disease but i just got done doing a report on it for school!. constipation is really rare with crohns cuz like you said you mostly have diarrhea!. do you have any ulcers, blood in stool, reduced appitite and weight loss, if so then you might have crohn's and need to go to the doctor!. if you want you can go to mayoclinic!.com and look up crohns and it tells you everything you need to know!. i hope this helps :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

You sound exactly like I was 3 months ago!. I was having the same problems except it would go between constipation and diarrhea with pain in the same area!. My doctor also thought it was Crohn's disease and all scopes and xrays were negative!. They can look into the first part of your small intestine during a colonoscopy which is then called an Ilieoscopy!.

For me it turned out to be Drug Induced Lupus and had to go off my medication!. Do you have abnormal inflammation in your body according to bloodwork!? You could also have Celiac disease, have you been tested for that!? See if your doctor will order the ANA test which is a marker for autoimmune diseases!.

Check out this website if you take prescription medication:
