He won't make it!. No one can be high for that long and then quit cold turkey, get sober and live a "normal" life!. You get so used to being high that no one knows who you are as a sober person!. The physical withdrawal symptons will subside within a month or two but the psychological symptoms will last much much longer!. The best bet is a Methadone clinic!. You have to go everyday and dose in the morning, but it is a controlled environment and the amount taken is monitored!. Methadone eases the withdrawal symptoms, calms nerves, and acts as a "light switch" in the brain in that if you use while on it, you cannot get high!. You will not feel the effects of the heroin, so will essentially be a waste of time and money to use it!. That helps break the habit!. The psychological addiction must be dealt with also, and counciling is provided!. Quitting cold turkey, it will be months before you can sleep correctly, and the cravings only get worse not better!. You need it treat as an illness and get the proper help, the body needs time to heal!. When used properly and with the right attitude Methadone does help!. It helps overcome the addiction and your entire life is not miserable and turned upside down!. He should commit to 2 years at a clinic and counciling, 1/2 the amount of time of using the narcotic!. Methadone is addictive as well though!. You need to get to the correct dose to stabilize and then deal with the addiction and causes of it!. Then you gradually lower your dose, 3-5milligrams a week, and wean off of it!.

I never smoked heroin but was addicted to pain killers for years!. I did the Methadone route!. After a year I weaned off the Methadone and beat the addiction for over a year and then got cocky and took pills and relapsed!. I have now been back in treatment with Methadone for 5 months and am weaning myself off again!. This time much more determined to not relapse again!. You have to want to be sober more than you want to be high!. It will not work unless you want to be sober!. You have to believe in yourself and be completely honest about using, how it makes you feel when you're high, why you loved being high, etc!. You have to face it head on!. The methadone clinic provides a place where people can go and openly talk about it their addiction and get proper counciling!. My second time around I am going to meetings and have a councilor with which I spend time!. I am taking it very seriously and feel very confident that I can overcome this addiction and understand that I can never take narcotic pain killers again!. The time I relapsed, I was given an RX by a dentist for a root canal!. I was only given 15 of them and thought, "well, I have been off of them for 2 years and off the Methadone for 1 year, I have been good and can treat myself and take them and enjoy them this one time!." Within two months I was buying them illegally all over again, taking 5-10 a day!. I made the decision to start the Methadone treatment again, and am determined this time to clean up my act!. It's about taking responsibility and realizing this is no way to live!. It's a way to die!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Withdrawal symptoms generally subside within a week but can persist for several months!. Your sister's boyfriend needs professional help!. Suggest it!. Self-withdrawal can be dangerous!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
