Heres something i said to another yahoo answer about asthma!. Now i've just cut and pasted it cause i'm feeling lazy today!. But on a bit of a side note to it, I'm a real bad asthmatic in that i get it bad and i dont listen to my doctor!. Until i was 14 i was taking all my meds!. Once I ran out i never got anymore cause i was sick of taking the damn things!. I wanted to see if i could overcome it and get in control of it which i jhave done just about with a healthy lifestyle of exercise and staying away from teh bad things and going to the doctor when i get sick to prevent chect infections!. However I should warn all you asmatics out there reading this I would advise you to keep taking your aleve meds as you may end up regreting it like I am!. I've now only got 79% lung capacity and strugle with my asthma in winter and cant do too much sport anymore all this from trying to to take my meds!. I now however do take my meds in a hope to control it again and below is what i do when i feel an attack coming on!.

Being a paramedic and an asthmatic I can help here!. With my asthma, If i feel i'm short of breath and tight in the chest i take a few puff off my ventolin and then put my hands on my head, try to stay calm and relax and control my breathing!. If that doen't work its more ventolin and hands back on the head!. If that doesn't work then its on the phone to the ambulance before its too late!. Now the reason for the hands on the head is that it helps expand your lungs!. So next time try it and let me know how it goes!.

Now being a paramedic I would say at any [point that you med dont work you need to call us as it could become life threatening especially if you've been In ICU before with asthma!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You need to start monitoring your peak flow measurements on a daily basis and also keep a diary of what you were doing when your asthma started to act up!. This way you will know what your exact triggers are and what to avoid!. Avoidance is the number one therapy for persons with asthma!. Depending on the type and severity of your asthma your doctor will work with you after reviewing the peak flow chart you make and the daily diary and give you a medication regime that should control your asthma!. If you have mild asthma you should only need to take an albuterol inhaler when exposed to your trigger!. For mild to moderate your might need a corticosteroid with a low dose beta agonist that is found in the Advair 100/50!. For severe asthma the higher level of Advair 500/50 in addition to luekotriene inhibitors might be an option!. Most over the counter pain killers that are aspirn based should be avoided if you have had a reaction to the Aleve!. You can always check with the pharmacist as they have all of the information you will need!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

More than anything it depends on the nature of allergies that you have that contribute to your asthma!. I am allergic to salicylates, which are found in most analgesics, fruits, vegetables, and spices!.

Inhaled corticoid sprays work best for me, by prescription only!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have very mild asthma!. I refuse to blow up any balloons, pool floaties, and other things!. That really gave me a problem last year!.

The intense breathing & not to mention the chemicals inside of them gave me a hard time!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i also have asthma, and advair, the powdered inhaler make me get raspy and sometimes i start to hyperventilate!.

good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
