Answers:
With pancreatic cancer, the liver is usually the first organ it metastasizes to!. They may have found a spot on a scan and want to take a biopsy to determine if it is malignant or not!.

As for the secrecy!.!.!.!.!.!. you and your mom stand up and demand to know what is going on!!!!
These doctors are not infallible gods!. Question them!. If they will not speak with you, demand to see one of their superiors or another doctor!.
You are his family and BY LAW have a right to know what is going on, what the test is for, and what the results of the test are!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

A liver biopsy is taken to look for indications of disease in the liver!. In your dad's case they are checking to see if and how much the cancer has spread from the pancreas to the liver (you might know that they are side by side in the body) It is carried out by pushing a thick bore needle into the liver and extracting a thin core which is then examined!. You were unlucky to be dealing with doctors or nurses that were not confident enough to explain everything to your mum!. Perhaps they thought it would be too upsetting for her!. But most of us (nurses) these days realise that it is more upsetting not to know what is going on!. I do hope the chemotherapy works, but if the cancer has spread to his liver this will make it more difficult for him to recover!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They will check his liver to, it is normal to screen it, this will help them to decide on the chemo treatment the story generally stays the same just listen to one consultant either his medical one or the oncologist,
People have liver biopsies for all sorts of diseases if in doubt ask questions until you understand the treatment sometimes easier if you have pen and paper and write stuff down as you forget!.what you have been told

Biopsies are to check for cancer!. Its probably part of their investigation into how badly the cancer has spread in his liver!. All in all, doesn't sound like good news, but part of the process!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

they have to take a tiny bit of it to check it out
to make sure it is cancer
they dont say much untill they know forsure
God Bless and ill pray for his healingWww@Answer-Health@Com

They take a piece of tissue from the liver to examine if the cancer is benign or malignant!. They dont like to say anything because it could be anything!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The liver is a pyramid-shaped organ that lies within the upper right side of the abdomen!. In a typical liver biopsy, a needle is inserted through the rib cage or abdominal wall!. The needle goes into the liver to take a sample for examination!.
In hepatitis, most biopsies are not used for diagnosis, which can be made by other means!. Rather, it is used to determine response to therapy which can be assessed by reduction of inflammation and progression of disease by the degree of fibrosis or, ultimately, cirrhosis!.
In Wilson's disease, the biopsy is used to determine the quantitative copper level!.
Indications for Liver Biopsy
Unexplained liver enzyme abnormalities
Alcoholic liver disease or nonalcoholic steatosis (diagnose and stage)
