hi all, I am a female crohn's pt!. for 28 yrs!. dxed at the age of 12!. When I was dating my now husband, he wanted to attend the local Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America support group meetings with meet along with the educational meetings to learn everything he could in case an emergency arose (ex-partial or full blockage, painful flare up, necessary surgery etc!.)!.

If you go to the CCFA website, they have tons of information regarding women's issues with IBD, diet, coping skills, surgery, the newest treatments, along with a live chat & a hotline that is run by healthcare experts well versed in IBD!. They have a forum where you can post questions to others in the same situation as yourself!.

I provided the necessary links for you!.

Is she on the newest treatments---Entocort, Humira, Remicade, 6MP, or Imuran!? These tend to get the CD in remission better than steroids, Pentasa, or Asacol!.

Definitely educate yourself, attend a local support chapter meeting, use the CCFA website, and don't be afraid to ask questions to your girlfriend, the doctor, or even the hotline!. That is what the medical staff is there for!. She will have good days and bad days!. She may tend to flare up before that time of the month seeing as hormones do play a part in flares!.

When she feels lousy, you may have to step up and do more that what is asked such as running errands, taking her to the doctor, cleaning the house, cooking, etc!. If she is lying down, ask her if she needs anything such as a prescription that was called in (for ex-pain meds), gatoraid if she feels nauseated, a back rub, soup, etc!.

Yes, it is difficult at times but speaking from experience, my husband went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and that I had the necessary things to keep things under control as best he could!. When I had my stroke 3 yrs!. ago, he saw to it that I had the best neurosurgeon and neurologist taking care of me, help when I came home to recover, and not once did he complain!. We've been married almost 11 yrs!. and I can honestly say it's made our relationship that much stronger!.

I wish you and your GF the best of luck and health!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Learn all that you can about this disease so that you will better understand what your girl friend is going through!. Crohn's disease, a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), is a condition in which the lining of your digestive tract becomes inflamed, causing severe diarrhea and abdominal pain!. The inflammation often spreads deep into the layers of affected tissue!. Like ulcerative colitis, another common IBD, Crohn's disease can be both painful and debilitating and sometimes may lead to life-threatening complication!.

While there's no known medical cure for Crohn's disease, therapies can greatly reduce the signs and symptoms of Crohn's disease and even bring about a long-term remission!. With these therapies, many people afflicted with Crohn's disease are able to function normally in their everyday lives!.

Do not underestimate how her disease may effect her life because it will have an effect on yours as well!. I know from experience how my own chronic illness led to the end of my marriage!. Going into this with understanding, love and concern will greatly help both of you!. Good luck!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I can only speak from personal experience!. People with Crohn's can lead pretty normal lives if it's being treated properly!. There are typically some dietary restrictions and fatigue and side effects of medication can be annoying, but it's managable!.

I think learning as much as you can is the best thing!. You can find many resources on the Crohn's and Colitis foundation web site!.
