You are right that the numbers you see in this forum are all over the map!. Based on what I'm seeing, there are several reasons for the discrepancies - outright mistaken answers, actual differences in published guidelines, and individuals giving their personal blood glucose targets rather than official guidelines!.

Here is a link that may be helpful!. According to it, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and American College of Endocrinology (ACE) each publish separate standards, with ACE being considerably more stringent!. My doctor told me to use the ADA standard, so for me anything under 130 before meals and anything under 180 after meals is acceptable!. Naturally lower is better as long as it doesn't result in hypoglycemia, which is under 70!. But you're not on medication, so you don't need to worry about hypoglycemia!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There are many set of numbers of numbers out there, some including pre-diabetic levels as normal, and some that don't!. I'm going to give you the set my doctor and endocrinologist, as well as my boyfriend's and the kids' doctors said were normal!.

Non-diabetic:
Fasting - 70-110
After meals - 110-125
Random - Under 180

Pre-Diabetic:
Fasting - 110-125
After meals - 125-145
Random - 180-200

Diabetic:
Fasting - 126+
After meals - 145+
Random - 200+

My diabetes is controlled purely on diet and exercise, and these were the numbers I was given after asking TONS of questions about the most reliable set!. I believe these are a happy medium between the ADA and others!. I do know that it is mutually agreed upon that you are diabetic!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Fasting should be 70mg/dL to 130mg/dL per ADA 2008 guidelines!. Post prandial (2 hours after meals) should be <180mg/dL!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
