it depends, how serious your allergy is and what it's too,
if it's to the fur, why not get a siamese!?
I have a very mild allergy to cat fur,
but i have a long furred tortise shell cat,
and have had her 14 years and all i ever get is my eyes watering and itching occasionally!.
But if it's a serious allergy, don't risk it :)
