Should men and/or boys be vaccinated against HPV?!
Question: Should men and/or boys be vaccinated against HPV!?
Answers:
Possibly, but at the moment the evidence is not quite enough to say for certain whether it works to prevent HPV infections in males!. Most of the studies have been on women since the primary purpose of vaccinating is to reduce the incidence of cervical cancer!.
Mind you, it's hard to think of a reason why it wouldn't work in males as well!.
While men don't have a cervix, HPV related cancers can also affect the penis, throat and anus!. Many of them also have partners with a cervix, and vaccination of men could well provide additional protection to women!.
The HPV vaccine is already approved for use in males age 9 to 15 in Australia, but it isn't funded yet!. I gather the regulatory authorities in the US and other countries are looking at the question, and I'd expect that as more data comes in, vaccination of males will become recommended and routine!.
