I was diagnosed with moderate emphysema today!. I am a White, Male, 28 years old, I smoked for 10 years, but quit 3 months ago!. I have been giving all the medications that I am taking like I should!. I have asthma, and that is what I thought it was but something didn

Don't listen to these idiots -- people (including myself) live for years and years and years with emphasyma!. You are very young for this, though, and will have to take extra care not to do any more damage to your lungs!. Stop smoking (I see you already have), be careful to manage your diet and weight, and avoid being exposed to any air pollutents, even second-hand smoke!. Lungs can repair themselves to an extend if the offending agent (perhaps smoking, in your case) is removed!. Also, stay on your medications!. Avoid any further asthma attacks that you can, and that will reduce the chance of further damage!.
Make a list of all the questions you want to ask the specialist, and take it with you to the appointment!. It's easy to forget something you wanted to ask him!. Also, ask him to explain anything you don't understand!. He should have literature available to help you learn about your disease!. If not, ask him where you can get it!.
No one can tell you how long you have to live!. A coworker of mine once told her patient he wouldn't live through the week!. Ironically, she was killed in a car accident a few days later, and he recovered and went home!.

If you were diagnosed with emphysema you could live for years and years!. As you get older you will naturally loose some of your lung function!. That on top of the damage you have already done with smoking will make it increasingly harder to breath!.
The very best thing you can do is stop smoking, control your asthma and take your medications as ordered by the doctor!. You can live for a long time with emphysema but it takes effort on your part!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

From my understanding, there is no cure for emphysema, but the treatment has to concentrate on stopping it getting any worse!. I think quitting smoking was the most effective thing you have done!.
As we normally have far more lung tissue than we really need for normal day-to-day life, it may be that you won't have any real reduction in your quality of living!.

I don't think you have anything to worry about!.
There's mild, moderate, and severe emphysema!. What you've got is pretty normal for 10 years of smoking!.

My uncle was diagnosed with emphysema when he was 28 years old and he died this year at the tender age of 96!. You might have a good long time to live!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
