The pain in appendicitis can last from hours to weeks!. Most commonly it develops over about 3 days!. The classic form begins around your belly button, and is a little vague!. Then it moves down to just above your right groin!. Unfortunately, alot of people have appendices in different places, so some people get really bad pain when they poop!
Typically when the pain gets bad you lose any desire to eat - that's because your guts are shutting down - you don't fart either!. I have NEVER had a hungry patient have appendicitis!.
Many times as the guts start making the inside of your belly wall pissed off, it hurts ALOT to walk or get jiggled by a bump in the road when you're in the car!.
If the appendix bursts, the pus goes all over your abdomen, so the infection takes longer to treat, but the pain actually gets better since the pressure is relieved!.
In the ED we will check a blood sample, your White Blood Cell count is usually quite high with any infection!. If you are female you'll get a pregnancy test and maybe a pelvic!.For suspected appendicitis, we usually do either an Ultrasound - especially if your skinny- or (more often) a CAT scan!. If signs of appendicitis are found, you go to surgery and get antibiotics!.
If the appendix is healthy and normal, you can get out in one day!. Infected and inflamed is usually 3 days, and burst is 7 days!. Good Luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Pain in the abdomen (tummy pain) is usually the main symptom!. Commonly, the pain starts in the middle of the abdomen!. The pain normally develops quickly, over an hour or so!. Over the next few hours the pain typically 'travels' to the lower right hand side of the abdomen!. This is over where the appendix normally lies!.

Typically the pain becomes worse and worse over 6-24 hours!. The pain may become severe!. The pain tends to be more sharp if you cough or make any jarring movements!. The pain may ease a bit if you pull your knees up towards your chest!. The lower abdomen is usually tender, particularly in the lower right hand side!.

Other symptoms that may occur include the following!.
Feeling sick and being off food is typical!. You may vomit!.
Fever and generally feeling unwell!.
Constipation may occur!. Sometimes diarrhoea!.
Frequent passing of urine may develop!. This is thought to be due to the inflammation 'irritating' the nearby ureter (the tube between the kidney and bladder)!.

If the appendix perforates (bursts) then severe pain can spread to all the abdomen!. You also become very ill!.

In some cases, the symptoms are not so typical!. For example, in some cases the pain may develop more slowly and run a more 'smouldering' course!. The pain may also start in the lower right hand side of the abdomen!. Also, the pain may not become severe until the appendix perforates!. The site of the pain may not be typical if the appendix lies in an unusual place!. Hope this helps!Www@Answer-Health@Com

One of the best ways to detect whether it is an appendicitis or not is to take the palm of your hand and press deep into the right lower abdominal area!. The quickly release your hand!. If it hurt worse to let got than it did to push in then that is called rebound pain and that is a positive sign it is your appendix!. Not guaranteed 100% but most doctors go by the rebounding pain to diagnose the problem!. Also the pain can start right behind your naval!. It is very hard to tell sometimes!. Mine started in my upper right abdomen instead of my lower right abdomen!. That is why it is so hard to diagnose!. Low grade fever!. Nausea, stomach pain, the rebound pain and vomiting can be signs of the ailment!. The best thing you can do is go to the doctor!. They can run some test to see if you white blood cell count is elevated which will tell them your body is fighting something abnormal!. Plus the doctor can check for himself for the rebound pain and if the area feels hot or inflamed!. My stomach was swollen on the right side!. Hope that helps!. Not just going by my appendectomy last December!. I am also going by what a doctor I use to work for did to diagnose the problem!. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
