Severe Cat Allergy Question?!
Question: Severe Cat Allergy Question!?
I have a friend who is coming to visit for the night tomorrow and she has servere cat allergies!. I have two cats and a small apartment but we have nowhere else for her to stay!. My idea was to vacuum and brush my cats and quarantine them in a room for the night!. Does anyone have any other suggestions that might help!? She already takes medicine for her allergies!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It'll be very difficult to remove the allergens that quickly - it can take many months for the cat allergens to decrease significantly from a home after the animals are removed!.
Washing the cat and vacuuming is helpful (you need a vacuum with HEPA filter though)!. Also wipe the walls and blinds!. Check out the website below (under cat allergy) for more on cat avoidance!.

This will be ok for a day or two!. Make sure the room you put the cats in is a room that most people will only be going into just to feed them!. You wont be able to go in and play with them really, and people shouldnt be tracking in and out!. If you dont have a whole room like that, you should consider a large dog kennel or cat carrier!. If you can afford to board the cats for a couple days, that might be good as well!. (or another cat friendly friend)
Change the filters on your air system AFTER you have cleaned!. Vacuum EVERYTHING!. The carpets, the curtains, the furniture, the beds, anything cloth and every surface in your house!. Make sure fresh linens are on the bed, the towels are freshly cleaned!. Clean the dust off any ceiling fans!.
Basically, it is going to take you cleaning non stop from now until she gets there to pull this off!. And the cats need to be quaranteed from now until she leaves!.
And it still may not work!. In addition to her reg medicine, she should probably consider bringing along some extra benedryal, and an epi pen depending on how severe her allergies are!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
