Why does my cat hurt himself?!

For years my cat has been licking himself so much that he causes open bleeding pusy sores all over his body!.!. he mostly licks his belly sometimes to the point where its raw and hairless [with the sores]!. He also scratches himself so much that he makes cuts and scabs!. Why does he do this!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
