Question about earring allergies?!

Question: Question about earring allergies!?
I would like to get my ears pierced, but I am afraid that I might be allergic to certain metals!. My mom has pierced ears, but she can only wear gold earrings, even sterling silver makes her ears turn bright red!. My mom and I share the same food allergies, so could allergies be hereditary!? Is there a way to test if I am allergic to metals before I get my ears pierced!? I don't want to get my ears pierced if I can't wear sterling silver or other earrings, like the ones you get a Claire's!. Thanks in advance!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Yes! Allergies can run in families! My son has my mother's allergy to shellfish!. My sister and I share several of the same allergies!.
Can you wear costume jewelry necklaces!? Do inexpensive rings break you out or irritate your fingers!? They do us! I used to be able to wear anything into my mid-twenties!. Now we can only wear fine silver, some sterling silver, and 10kt, 14kt gold!.
Before you get your ears pierced you will have to decide if you are willing to take the risk, because even if these costume jewelry items don't bother you, piercings may!. Not only that, but realize that there are very inexpensive places to purchase fine jewelry, Wal-mart, Ross', K-mart, etc!.
Go and look at what jewelry is available for those of us that must wear silver and gold!. I had mine pierced because I kept losing my clip-on earrings!. I haven't lost many earrings since then, 40 yrs!. ago!
Good luck! You've got a lot to think about!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Allergies aren't exactly inherited, but a predisposition to allergies can be!. What she is allergic to doesn't mean that you will be, which is good!.

I have titanium earrings that I had done at Walmart, when they were pierced!. I used to be able to wear surgical stainless but can't, which developed slowly to be severe reaction!. Higher karat gold is purer, and often well tolerated in people with metal allergies!.

One way to test for metal allergy is to try keeping a bit of the metal in contact with your skin for a while, sometimes the reaction will happen quickly and other times it can take a while!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you can wear metals on other parts of your body then you should be able to wear them in your ears!. If you were allergic to metals, as many people are, then buy a good quality gold pair of earrings and ask them to put those in after they pierce your ears!. sleepers are better, you can turn them each day after soaking your earlobes in part tcp part warm water, use an eggcup under your lobes!. This will stop any infection!. Make sure to ask people who have had it done to recommend somewhere, as some are better than others!. Consider not bothering and wearing clip ons instead!. Many people with allergies can wear 9ct, 14 ct gold or platinum!. Most people with a metal allergy avoid nickel, though some can have a reaction to gold as well!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

14 Karat gold earings are the best for people with allergies!. I am allergic to sterling silver as well!. you can also buy steel or titanium earings, but they aren't sold at claires!. You would have to go to piercing boutique to get some!. Something I used to do back when I wore sterling silver is take some clear nail polish and coat the backing and posts of the sterling silver earings (let it dry overnight to be on the safe side)!. This keeps the metal from making contact with your skin!. The only problem is the nail polish eventually starts flaking off and needs to be reapplied!. I think gold or steel would be best, and neither of them are that hard to come by!. you can get them at almost any piercing parlor/boutique!.

When I got my nose pierced, the piercing boutique didn't even carry silver anymore!. They switched to all surgical steel and titanium and I haven't had a problem with either one of them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

In my family, I have I daughter who can only wear gold, my 2 other daughters can wear silver and surgical steel!. I can only wear silver!. I cleaned all their ears with rubbing alcohol!. They didn't seem to heal well with the cleaner they got!. My girls had their ears done at Claire's too!. They all started with earrings from Claire's!. Also I put triple antibiotic ointment on the backs of their ears every night!. It helped the ears to heal and kept the redness and soreness down!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

ok,ok i have the same prob and i just use real gold earrings covered in silver but its not real metal you can find those kind in any store!.Your ears wont be sore or red if you use those kind!.:)
*hope this helps!*Www@Answer-Health@Com
