Whats wrong with my heart?!

Question: Whats wrong with my heart!?
Since last night I've been having these weird palpitations in my heart!.
There is a history of heart disease in my family, and many people close to me have suffered from heart attacks!.
I'm only 21 so I don't think I'm going to suddenly drop dead or anything like that!.!. But I don't know what this is!. I was so worried last night that I went to the hospital but they didn't take me seriously in anyway, probably because of my age!.
I'm not a hypocondriact or anything like that either!! I rarely if ever go to the DR, let alone the hospital, its just when it comes to my heart its something i take very serioulsy becoz of the family history!.
The nurse at the hospital told me its "Probably normal" But I don't see ANYTHING normal with your heart pulpitating every couple of minutes, and espcially if it lasts this long!.
Does anyone know what this is!? And what should I do about it, no one seems to be taking this seriously enough to even check if there is a problem! Thanks in advance!. :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
An actual heart attack (myocardial infarction) before the age of 50 is extremely rare and at 21 even rarer!.

Everyone will experience "palpitations" in their lifetime at some point or another!. This seems to just of been a one day occurrence from what you stated!.

This is unlikely to have any clinical significance as this is just one simple day!.

Palpitations are usually not indicative of major events happening!. Heart attacks usually have a more discomfort feeling in the chest area than palpitations!.

This, however, could be indicative of a heart problem!.

You might actually have something wrong with you, but emergency departments are set up to assess the potential of a life-threatening emergency happening!. They will not do further testing such as echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) if they don't find any problems with simple tests such as ECG/EKG (same thing)!.

The best option for you at this point is to make an appointment with your local doctor if symptoms persist or if you are still worried about it and see what your local doctor thinks!. They will listen for a murmur and determine if more testing such as echocardiogram is needed!.

I'm not saying that you don't have potential to have an actual cardiac event, because you do, just like every other person!. Don't ever hesitate to go to your local ER if you feel the need because it is the law that they evaluate your symptoms for any life-threatening possibilities!.

Best of luck to you!

NOTICE-- No one on this thing can diagnose you with anything including PVC's!. PVC's are just more common but what happens to others is not necessarily what is happening to you! Never take a diagnosis off of the internet!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have that too!. I sit and im relaxing then suddenly ill get this weird feeling in my chest that feels like my heart is beating really fast but missing a beat!. I read once that it is fine and that you can get it when you relax!. I dont remember exactly what it said about why it happens i just remember reading it wasnt harmful, that was years ago and i still have it now and then and ntohing has happened to me yet!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sounds like an anxiety attack that can boost your heart rate!. My sister went through that!. Are you "consciously" listening to your heart's beating!? Are you in a stressful situation at the moment!? I think if you relax and don't think about it, it won't happened!. If you are still concerned, see your cardiologist for a check-up!. If anything is going on, he/she will find!. it!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You need to make an appointment with a Cardiologist!. They will take you seriously!. Age doesn't matter!. Some heart conditions go undetected for many years!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I didnt think of heart problems at all since i was so young, then i started passing out, i still didn't think anything of it, cause soon as i'd pass out on floor, i'd get right back up!.!.!. THEN i passed out and couldn't get up!. come to find out, i needed a pace maker at age 23! THEN found out the wiring of my heart was off, so now take medicine to slow it down!. I now have about 3 things wrong with my heart and i'm very young!. YOU have to keep being aggressive with your parents and doctors!.!.!. YOU know your body best, if you think somethings wrong, there probally is! I cant believe everyone is just ignoring your problem!. you should fake passing out and then maybe someone will take you friggen serious! geez!. be aggressive, get to the bottom of it!. make people listen! make your dr!. check it out ASAP!!!!!!!!! p!.s!. there was also heart problems in my family at very young ages!. PLEASE make them take you seriously! Its a matter of life and death!Www@Answer-Health@Com

That sounds like premature ventricular contractions!. I've had those for years (since my early twenties), and I was told that it wouldn't diminish my life expectancy in the least!. For some people, they only get them when they are particularly stressed and then they go away, for others, it's pretty much a permanent thing!. I had enough of them (800 on a normal day) to really stress me out and diminish my quality of life, so I was prescribed 50mg of Atenolol!. The longer I took it, the better it worked!.

Let me describe to you what happens: Your ventricule contracts ahead of time, before the blood has accumulated to be pumped, but then the next beat still only takes place at its regular interval, which means there is a longer period of time between the two beats!. That results in feeling a "pause" and then, because more blood has accumulated before the next beat, it results in a stronger, and possibly "uncomfortable" beat!. If you get really stressed about it, it causes your blood vessels to contrict and can even make those beats feel painful, but it's still not dangerous, just really annoying!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had the same exact thing! I was so stressed I kept telling everyone I knew to feel my heartbeat and to feel the skipped beat and then the big thump! I have Doctor phobia so it was very difficult for me to go but I finally did!. I wore a halter monitor for 24 hours which was measuring my every heart beat and recording it!. Turned out I had 1500 PVC's in one day! But after a stress test and echocardiogram, they determined it was not harmful!. As time went by they slowly diminished!. I still get them from time to time but nothing like it was!. For me, I think it was from anthestisia from an operation!. I wouldn't worry yourself like I did!. Yours sound exactly the same and it's called premature ventricular contractions!. or PVC's!. Good luck to you!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Irregular heart beats, or Palpitations are completely normal!.

If you're seriously worried about it you can go to your regular Physician which they can give you an EKG to see whether your heart is healthy!. If this comes back normal, and they see nothing wrong you may be told the same thing the ER told you!.!. "It's probaby normal"!. If you're still concerned afterwards they can send you to see a Cardiologist which then they may preform a Stress Test [Echo] or inject you with dye & x-ray the heart to see whether it is healthy!.

But everything you have prescribed above is normal sweet heart!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Probably premature ventricular contractions!. And yes, my friend, you made the correct choice by coming to yahoo answers for advice!. Let me advise you (however, if they do not clear up after trying the following for 2 months, you might want to see a cardiologist)!.

1) Cut down on caffeine!. At least half your intake from current!.

2) Go to a good health food store and get some magnesium capsules, or order online!. Magnesium Taurate works best!. Take 120 mg a day!.

3) Go to a good grocery store and get some coconut water and grape juice (coconut water, not coconut milk) and drink one glass of each a day!.

4) Get a good quality brand of fish oil capsules and start taking 2 or three a day!.

best of luck
