My nan has pneumonia, anyone know more about this ?!

Question: My nan has pneumonia, anyone know more about this !?
My nan, who is in her 70's, was rushed into hospital last night!. This morning, we're told she has pneumonia!.
For a while she's been producing water and phlem in her mouth/throat, and she's had trouble eating!. Basically, for the last 6 MONTHS, everytime she tries to eat she starts to gag and choke, believe me, I only found out this was happening for 6 months today, but when I first heard about this I tried to reassure her saying it was probably just reflexes or something, but told her to see a doctor about it!.
Now she's Stable but poorly in hospital, the nurses have witnessed this 'gagging' while trying to eat and have said that's not right (obviously) and now she's on 'nil by mouth', is this linked to pneumonia !?

I need to know the likleyhood of my nan getting over this!. I know it's a serious illness for even a healthy young adult, but she's in her 70's!. Can someone please tell me what to expect with this, so I can be prepared!. I love you nan !Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
it sounds like your Nan has Aspiration pneumonia, When someone has problems with their gag reflex when eating then they can aspirate food into the lungs!. Your Nan should be on intravenous antibiotics if this is the case, ideally Cefuroxime and Metronidazole!. Treatment is effective!. They should refer your nan to speech and language therapists to assess her swallow reflex!.
im presuming that since she is Nil by Mouth then she is having intravenous fluids to hydrate her!.
They could also send her for a CT brain as one of the common reasons for delayed or no swallow reflex is a stroke!. Strokes can go undetected and can only be shown on CT scanWww@Answer-Health@Com

70 is not so old and she is in the right place!. My friend had it and she was very weak for a while and had to stay still and get lots of rest!.
Pneumonia is to do with fluid in the lungs and can have lots of minor complications!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
