Why do I need to see the podiatrist?!

Question: Why do I need to see the podiatrist!?
At my last doctor's appointment, my doctor referred me to see a podiatrist!. I have type 2 diabetes!. My feet are a little try around the heels!. I know it's probably just a precaution!. My appointment is tomorrow!. When he asks me why I am there, all I think I'm going to say is "I don't know!." Other people with type 2 diabetes that I know have not had to see one!. What should I expect!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am going to assume that you meant you have dry skin on your heels!. Dry skin equals dead skin!. Excessive dead skin is a sign of poor circulation, which is common in type 2 diabetics, especially in the feet and lower legs!. This is a warning sign for diabetic neuropathy, a condition in which both blood flow and sensitivety are decreased in the lower extremeties!. This is a very serious condition, as any sores on your feet will be difficult to heal, and the decrease in sensitivity will make them seem less serious, as you won't feel exactly how bad the problem is!. Other signs of poor circulation in your lower legs and feet is an abscence of hair on your lower legs, consistantly cool or cold feet, any burning or tingling sensations in you feet and legs, or problems with your legs "falling asleep" frequently!. You should be highly aware of your feet, and daily inspections should be as normal for you as testing your blood glucose!. A trip to the podiatrist will allow the dead skin build up to be removed safely, as well as having your nails trimmed professionally to prevent any ingrown nails that may cause serious problems for diabetics!. Good Luck!. and take good care of your feet!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Just tell him it's because you have diabetes!. He'll know what to do!. Diabetics must be vigilant about their footcare, since many with diabetes get nerve and blood vessel damage in the extremities, and could lose toes or even a foot or a leg!. It could be that others you know haven't been sent to a podiatrist because they are not showing any problems with their feet, and you are; or it could be that your particular doctor is vigilant about footcare, moreso than these other people's doctors!. Which is not a bad thing!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Every diabetic needs foot exams by their doc several times a year, and a podiatrist at the first sign of any problems!. Our circulatory systems get damaged over time, so our extremeties lose sensitivity and healing ability!. Foot injuries and infections can get out of hand quickly, leading to amputation!. Just telling him you're diabetic is all he needs, he'll do a thorough exam and discuss callous removal methods with you!. I just went to one last month because I had a stubborn callous!.!.!.turns out it was a Plantar's Wart and he removed it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

A podiatrist is necessary to check out your feet and make sure you don't have other problems there as well!. Podiatrist is a specialist in foot problems!!

Dry heels are prone to cracking and getting infections no matter how careful we be!. I use a good after shower/bath oil on washcloth, then lotion or cream on my feet and no longer have that problem!. It works for the rest of the bod too!!

I went to the Podiatrist for a plantar fibroma on my foot!. A swelling in the plantar muscle that was making walking a problem!. A friend of mine uses her podiatrist for trimming her toenails!.

It is a good idea for us to make the appointment with the Podiatrist just like we do with the Optometrist or Opthamologist and the cancer screenings, etc!. It is just good health we are looking at all over our bodies!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
