Answers:
Well, systemic lupus erythematosus (or SLE or just lupus) is an autoimmune disease!. That means that your immune system becomes confused and attacks healthy tissue!. This causes many symptoms, one of which can be a rash that often occurs after being in the sun!. Most people (90 %) with lupus develop skin problems, and the rash is used to help diagnose the disease!.

A skin rash is a mild symptom of lupus, and will often occur during flare-ups (when you are having more symptoms) and when you first start showing symptoms!. When the lupus is more serious, problems with the kidneys, heart, lungs, blood, or nervous system develop!.

The rash will often develop on the face in a trademark "butterfly" rash!. But the rash can appear in other locations as well!. The next most common place to get the rash is on the shoulders, collarbone area, lower part of the face, and the tops of the arms!. The least common place to get the rash is the area from the waist down to the top of the thighs!. On this page there is a link to a chart that shows where the rash is most common and where it is least common, etc!. http://lupus!.webmd!.com/guide/lupus-syste!.!.!.
Click on the link that says butterfly rash and has the little camera next to it!. I would have given you the direct link to the picture, but I can't, the internet won't let me!. Here is a picture of an actual person with a lupus rash: http://www!.indomedia!.com/Intisari/1998/s!.!.!.

I really hope that answered your question! :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

My mother has lupis, it where your skin is red, on occasions can peel!. Sometimes her's looks like little pimples everywhere!. If she is out in the sun that really brings out the rash Also the skin is involved in more than 90% of people with lupus!. Skin symptoms are more common in whites than in African Americans!. While the classic lupus rash is a redness on the cheeks (malar blush) often brought on by sun exposure, many different types of rashes can be seen in SLE!. Discoid lupus with the red skin patches on the skin and scaliness is a special characteristic rash that can lead to scarring!. It usually occurs on the face and scalp and can lead to loss of scalp hair (alopecia)!. It is more common in African Americans with lupus!. Occasionally, discoid lupus can occur as an isolated skin condition without systemic disease!. Hair loss can occur with flares of SLE even without skin rashes in the scalp!. In this situation, the hair regrows after the flare is treated!. Hair loss can also occur with immunosuppressive medicationsWww@Answer-Health@Com

I have Discoid Lupus - which is Lupus confined to the skin only!. It kind of looks like prickley heat or rosecea - it was on my upper chest, cheeks, nose and some areas on my scalp when flared up bad!. A small faler up just looks like a small acne area on one side of my forehead!. I need to take Plaquenil that prevents break out!. It is an autoimmune disorder with unknown cause - maybe genetics or stress!. It is unlikely to beombe systemic Lupus, which is more severe b/c it can affect all the organs!.

Blood work and biopsies and a good doctor can diagnosis itWww@Answer-Health@Com
