It can provide relief since it contains diphenhydramine hydrochloride which is an anti histamine!.Our body reacts to anything which is not acceptable to it by releasing histamines which are present in the blood in a bound state and it manifests it self as skin rash!.This medicine or for that matter, all antihistaminics, anti allergics and 5 HT antagonists do more or less the same job!.Drugs like this one, chlorphenaramine maleate and cyproheptadine have become outdated because of their side effect like heavy droziness!.Hence It is prefered to use more recent medicines like cetrizine with lesser sedation or the non sedating antihistamine Allegra, containing fexofenadine hydrochloride, both in once daily dose!.Application of calamine lotion will definitely provide soothing effect!.Note :Don't abuse cortisones by making it the first line of treatment!.Keep it as a last resort!.If everything fails, then only one should resort to cortisones that too under supervision of a qulified doctor who will advise you on dose and gradual withdrawal or else it can do more harm than good!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
I doubt that Benadryl will actually help if the normal "cure" is not doing so!.!.!. Maybe try only ONE dosage of the stuff, and see if any improvement occurs!.
Perhaps you can acquire a sliiightly (caution here, it may cause more harm than good) more concentrated amount of zinc oxide (ZnO) and iron(III) oxide (Fe2O3), though there is no proof that either of these will help!.

An old timer's trick when poisoned by stinging sea animals is to urinate on the area - weather or not this works for stinging sea animals or poison ivy, I have no idea, and to walk around smelling like piss can not be pleasant!. But if I were driven as mad as I imagine you to be, and if nothing else were working, I probably would give it a shot and wash up later!. Grosss! I'm no doctor!. Don't hate me for coming up with ideas!. :(Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, it does!. It's the only thing that kept me sane the last time I got into the stuff! Poison ivy rash is an allergic reaction to the plant oils, so an antihistamine calms that reaction down!. And there are creams made especially for ivy reactions that probably work better than Calamine!. I used hydro cortisone on mine, and that worked better than Calamine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Yes, Benadryl will help with the itching, but the itch won't go away completely without a prescribed medication!. Do NOT run hot water over it, because that may make the blisters spread! Use cool water, vinegar rinse, and a lot of calamine lotion will help!. Follow the doctor's advice, but do go see the doc if you can!Www@Answer-Health@Com
i am extremely sensitive to poison ivy!. every time i get it i take benedryl, i put vasaline on it (helps with the itching, i know its wierd!) take cold showers, or luke warm, and dont itch! if you go to be, and actually might fall asleep, wear cloth gloves, they cover your nails and prevent the poison ivy stuff from getting on your skin and spreading it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Here is a tip I just learned: Run hot water (as hot as you can take it) over the infected area for several minutes!. This will make the itch go away for about two hours!. I know it isn't a cure or permanent but it works for temporary relief!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Well benedryll is an anti-histamine so it stops the flow of histamine to the affected area, which in turn helps stop the itching!.
I think thats how it works anyway!.!.!.
Just give it a try!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
