STDs can be transmitted from a pregnant woman to the fetus, newborn, or infant before, during, or after birth!. Some STDs (like syphilis) cross the placenta and infect the fetus during its development!. Other STDs (like gonorrhea, chlamydia, hepatitis B, and genital herpes) are transmitted from the mother to the infant as the infant passes through the birth canal!. HIV infection can cross the placenta during pregnancy, infect the newborn during the birth process, and, unlike other STDs, infect an infant as a result of breast-feeding!.
usually if you are pregnant you should be screened for any infection and if you have one it will most likely get treated or if uncurable you would probably have a c section, but as long as you are careful these things can be prevented!. just make sure that you do everything you can to take care of your body, but if u use to have one and were treated of it im sure your baby will be fine and your doctor should keep up with these things throughout your pregnancy!.good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

If you are pregnant with a bacterial STI, they can treat you and the baby and there is nothing to worry about!. If you are pregnant with a viral STD then you would have to be careful during the delivery, and most likely a c- section will be performed to prevent the spread of the disease!. If you had the STD before, but it was treated or cured, then you should have anything to worry about!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
That is why it is SO important to receive all the prenatal screenings!. So that if anything comes out positive there are treatments that may be taken to prevent or reduce the risk of transferring infection to the baby!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
