It really depends on your situation!. If you or anyone you live with has asthma, you need to stay away from air purifiers and ionizers because these emit trace amounts of ozone and the O3 can actually make their asthma worse!. This was the basis of the lawsuit against the Sharper Image (regarding their Ionic Breeze) that has resulted in the bankruptcy of that company!.
You mentioned removing viruses and that really isn't practical, despite all the marketing claims!. While the dust and pollen and molds etc can be removed by HEPA filtration (HEPA is a measurement that means 99!.97% of particles at 0!.3 microns are arrested by the filter) viruses are more at the 0!.12 micron size and cannot be captured with HEPA filtration!.
I personally swear by the Austin Air brand of HEPA filters because they have heavy duty motors that can move alot of air (that is the name of the game in filtering air!.!.!.how much you get to the filter), they have filters that last many many years, and they are not made of plastic!. I have 3 in my house right now and the oldest is almost 10 years old!. So they last!.
But, you need to pick the filter that is best for your situation and your situation might not be like mine!. I am going to give you a link to an excellent article that will explain all the different kinds of filters out there and tell you how you decide for yourself what is best for what you are trying to do!. I will also give you a link to those Austins like I have if you want to check them out!. BTW, don't let anyone try to sell you on the idea that UV lights will take out those viruses and bacteria!. UV is a great sanitizer but it requires contact time and a virus that flies past a light at 200 cfm doesn't get enough contact time to make it crippled much less killed!. I also would stay away from Honeywell because their stuff is junk and after about 2 years or so the motors start sounding like freight trains - been there done that - please learn from my mistake!Www@Answer-Health@Com
