My moronic brother branded himself with brass knuckles?!
Question: My moronic brother branded himself with brass knuckles!?
Okay, yeah, as the title says!. I'm 14 and he's 15, and he, for whatever reason, let a friend brand him with brass knuckles!. The burn turned black then reddish and it's all charred like!. How stupid can one get, right!? Well, my mom knows, and she insists that neosporin will cure it!. If I'm correct, neosporin won't cure such a burn!. Shouldn't he see a doctor!? If he doesn't, what could the effects of an infection be!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
Answers:
If it was anywhere else on the body, I wouldn't be as concerned!. Neosporin would be OK!. But the hand is a different story!. There are a lot of very important muscles, tendons and nerves right below the skin and not much protection from burn damage!. I'd encourage your Mom to take him to the doctor just to be on the safe side!.
Edit: OK!.!.!. I guess I just made the assumption based on the brass knuckles part!. Anyway, you are describing a 3rd degree burn!. That is nothing to take lightly, but if your mother wants to try treating it, Neosporin is pretty good!. The brother needs to keep the area clean and the dressing changed daily!. If you see any signs of oozing (especially if it smells off) or the area around it starts looking increasingly red and/or swollen, get him to a doctor ASAP!. But seriously, going at least once to have it looked at is certainly a good idea!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
