Should I continue to apply ointment on my cold sore?!

Question: Should I continue to apply ointment on my cold sore!?
Ok!.!. it's been about 4 days since I've gotten cold sores on my lips and

I've been applying Blistex

The thing is!.!.!. if i dont apply Blistex, the cold sores get hard (turn into scabs)

however, once i apply Blistex, they become soft again!.

Should I stop applying Blistex and let them scab!? or continue to apply it to keep em soft!?!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
stop blistex, its probably mildly irritating and somewhat keeping the sores from healing, and yes it soften them because you are putting an ointment type compound on them, the moistening is potentially helpful for healing, but the other stuff in blistex is probably not, i would use something like neosporin which is designed for healing wounds!. it doesn't have antiviral activity so won't really stop the cold sores in that way but will help keep the skin protected and hopefully aid in healing and prevent infection!. get the neosporin plus pain reliever its great!. also you could see your doctor for real ointment that actually treats cold sores and he/she can also give you oral medication if you see them soon enough during an outbreakWww@Answer-Health@Com
