Should the medical profession force-feed anorexics as part of their treatment?!

Question: Should the medical profession force-feed anorexics as part of their treatment!?
I've heard about doctors force feeding anorexics!. I'm pretty sure anorexia is more of a mental illness than a physical one!. But doesn't force feeding strip a person of their dignity!? I know life is much more important though!. They are just so afraid to gain weight!. A healthy body is needed to treat a mental illness, I think!. What are your opinions!? Should anorexics be force fed or not!? I'm curious about what other people think!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
No!. Not in the free and democratic world!. Only totalitarian regimes like Nazi Germany or Communist Russia did allow thing like that to happened to their patient!. (and more)!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Anyone that is unwilling or unable to eat is often fed by a feeding tube either placed directly into their stomach/intestines or through a tube that runs from their nose into their stomach!. Anorexia is both a physical and mental illness!. At some point the individual loses control of their ability to eat so the choice has to be made for them!. Because the individual if they were in their right mind would be able to realize that they are too thin but because Anorexia changes the way we see our bodies we only see that we are fat, when in fact we are skin and bones!. In medicine we first have to do no harm, therefore we have to do everything we can to preserve life if we can!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Under 18, yes, force fed!. Because they are being influenced too strongly by silly kids their own age!. But there is a point to cut the apron strings!. If someone is over 18 and starving themselves!. then let them do it, but be straight up and harsh!. Don't be afraid to say, you look absolutely like walking death, go get help!. Because from what I have seen, the way far vast majority of anorexics don't truly believe they look better as a skeleton!. They are looking to get that special care!. If folks saw that people seeking attention like that were not getting it, the whol anorexia thing would mostly (not completely) go awayWww@Answer-Health@Com

i totally disagree with force feeding!.!.!.they should not be allowed to do that!. if they want anorexics to eat more, they should take slow steps and try to comfort them and let them know that its ok to gain wheight and that it will not hurt them, otherwise they could get sick from going straight to eating alot from starving themselvesWww@Answer-Health@Com

Medical treatment should not be forced upon a person against their will!. It is a basic human right!. The only exception is that the dangerously psychotic should be restrained or sedated!.

theres no way to force feed them, their stomach won't take it and they won't do it willingly the only way to get it in them would be IV'sWww@Answer-Health@Com

I think the choice should be their own!. It's pointless force-feeding anorexics!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I worked briefly in a mental institution with anorexics, the point of forcefeeding is not really the nutrition, though that of course helps, its the unpleasantness of it and the indignity!. Sometimes they make them be transported in a wheelchair as opposed to walking, until they are at a normal weight!. Again, they can walk, but its the idea that they have to go around in a wheel chair!.!.!. Sometimes they are watched all the time, again, its the same thing, its not about actually watching them, it's about inspiring them to engage more actively in their treatment so they are no longer treated in this manner!.
Anorexia is a mental illness, however it differs from other mental illnesses in that there is A LOT that the person experiencing can do about it!. The indignity of force-feeding anorexics is not the same as the indignities sometimes inflicted upon say someone who is suffering from hallucinations or prater-willie syndrome!. In those cases there is nothing that the person can do to help themselves - their disease has physiological etiology!. Anorexics do have the power to help themselves they just have to pushed in the right direction!. The recovering anorexics I've met are thankful for their treatment!. Everyday is still a struggle for them, food is ALWAYS an issue - but sometimes the thought of going back to where they were, in the hospital, with no control over when or how they eat, is motivation to keep themselves healthy!. It should also be noted that most of the anorexics who are treated using this method are not in the hospital of their own volition, this method is very infrequently used on those who are!.
