How can you test if you are lactose intolerant?!

Question: How can you test if you are lactose intolerant!?
Other than noticing that you get sick almost every time you eat something containing milk, is there any specific way to test for this intolerancy!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
There are a few tests used to diagnose lactose intolerance!. One is a hydrogen breath test!. Normal levels of hydrogen in the breath are low but if you are unable to break down lactose, then the level increases and can be detected in the breath!. Another test is a blood glucose test!. If your blood sugar rises after drinking milk, then this means that the lactose, a sugar, is being broken down and absorbed by the body!. If your blood sugar stays the same, it means your body is unable to absorb it, indicating a lactase deficiency!. Lactase is the enzyme that breaks down lactose!.

A way to self test is to wake up in the morning and drink a glass of milk!. It should be low fat!. Don't eat or drink anything for 3-5 hours (I suppose water would be ok) and see what your symptoms are!. Symptoms of lactose intolerance are bloating, gas, abdominal cramping, diarrhea, and less commonly, nausea!.

I am lactose intolerant but find that I can tolerate some dairy products and not others!. I cannot drink milk as this causes horrible abdominal pain!. Even tiny amounts cause a lot of pain!. I drink soy milk instead!. Things I tolerate well are yogurt and cheese!. Less tolerable but not too bad are cream sauces and ice cream!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Doctors can do a test where they measure the CO2 (I think that's the right gas) in your breath, then you swallow something containing a high concentration of lactose, wait an hour or so, and they re-measure your breath!. The reading can indicate whether your are lactose intolerant or not!.

Personally, I'm scared to do that, as I assume the test itself would make me sick!. I get extremely sick every time I have dairy, so I'm quite confident labeling myself as lactose intolerant without a formal diagnosis!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes you can get an allergy test ordered by your primary Doctor by the skin scratch method or blood testing!.

Insurance companies usually cover food allergy testingWww@Answer-Health@Com

The cheapest reliable way would be to keep a food diary and make a note of which foods cause a reaction!. If you see a lot of reactions to dairy products, try avoiding them and see what happens!.

Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

dairy product making you sick is pretty indicative of a lactose intolerance, no, there are no specific tests for something that is pretty obvious without a test!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
