Swollen lymph node at the side of neck?!

Question: Swollen lymph node at the side of neck!?
About a year ago I noticed a small lump on the left side of my neck!.
I don't know if it was there before!?

Anyway, I will go get it checked out soon but out of curiosity, if it was lymphoma, would the lump just continue to grow in size!? Because this is always present but sometimes bigger or smaller!. Also, would the symptoms become progressively worse!?

Also, is it possible that this isn't a cancerous growth!? Because no matter what it just won't go away :S:S:S

If the node were enlarged from lymphoma, it would probably continue to enlarge!. Lymph nodes can be up to about 1 cm in size and they do wax and wane in size depending on what's going on in the body!. Assuming this "lump" isn't much bigger than about 1 cm or so, I wouldn't be that worried about it!. I'm in remission from lymphoma and my doctor says as long as it's no bigger than a marble, we don't worry about it!.

Generally, what happens with untreated lymphoma is a node will enlarge to a certain size, then another node nearby will enlarge, and then another node next to it will enlarge, etc!. until you actually have what looks to be a mass!. The mass is, in fact, just a bunch of swollen lymph nodes bunched together!. From personal experience, the size of the "mass" can vary somewhat in size!.

Lymphoma symptoms would include weight loss, fevers, night sweats !.!.!. Hodgkin's lymphoma specifically also sometimes causes itching and pain when drinking alcohol!.

I would recommend getting it checked out by a doctor as soon as reasonably possible, but it doesn't sound like cancer!. That said, if your lump is actually of a fairly good size (say bigger than a ping pong ball), I would someone immediately!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The chances of it being cancer are low!. It is possibly (and commonly) something called a lipoma or "fat pocket"!. This is benign and can be removed if it is causing discomfort or you just want to have it removed for cosmetic reasons!. It will not go away on its on, but is not a health concern!. It is simply a growth of fat cells that have congregated in one small area!. Of course it is wise to get any lump checked out, but you don't have any reason to worry just based on the presence of a small lump!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Infections that commonly cause swollen lymph nodes include mononucleosis, German measles (rubella), tuberculosis, mumps, ear infection, tonsillitis, an abscessed or impacted tooth, gingivitis (swelling of the gums), mouth sores, and sexually transmitted diseases!.

Immune or autoimmune disorders that can cause swollen lymph nodes include rheumatoid arthritis and HIV!. Cancers that can cause swollen glands include leukemia, Hodgkin's disease, or non-Hodgkin's lymphoma!.
