Does anyone know anything about Celiac Disease?!

Question: Does anyone know anything about Celiac Disease!?
When I was 13 or 14 years old ( about 21 years ago) I was diagnosed with IBS, Irritable Bowel Disease!. But recently a friend of mine told me that doctors really didn't know too much about Celiac Disease, and both these diseases have very similar symptoms, so doctors misdiagnosed many patients as little as a few years ago!.

She said that I should be tested right away for Celiac disease because it could eventually kill me, by shutting down my intestines or something!.

Now I'm scared does anyone know anything about this disease the website stated that 1 in 133 people have this disease but are unaware of it!. Should I get the Blood test!.

Can anyone point me to some good sites to do some research, If a doctor could try and answer to I'd be very grateful!.

ThanksWww@Answer-Health@Com

Hi, I have celiac, and I was also misdiagnosed for over a decade, was also told I have IBS and lactose intolerance, amongst other things!.
Yes, PLEASE do get the screening blood work done, it only takes a few min!. and it could change your life!. My "IBS" is gone and I now live a normal life, the diagnosis literally changed my life! It is certainly worth talking to your doctor about, especially if you have issues with dairy!!!

Go here to understand the bloodwork:

if these come back positive, then they may or may not want an endoscopy!. My t-Tg was literally off the charts that it was considered diagnostic in and of itself!. I only had the endoscopy a year later to check on on healing!.

Here are some sites that I found to be quite wonderful:

P!.S!. Lauren have you been tested!? Since this is a genetic autoimmune disease, you need to be tested, and more than once in your lifetime as it can be triggered later in life!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hello,

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that involves your digestive system (intestines)!. You probably know this already but stay away from ANY foods that contain glutens (many pizzas, wheats, barley, rye!.!.!.!.!.)!. You should probably seek out a doctor that deals with celiac disease alot!. Here is a website from the NIH that focused towards people who have this disease:

get the blood test!. My 12 year old was diagnosed 3 weeks ago!.

As you get older!.!.scarring around the bowel can lead to problems and even some forms of bowel cancer!. Its best to be tested and to know what your dealing with, so you know what foods to avoid!.

Since changing her diet!.!.the remarkable improvement in my 12 year old has been great! Her skin has improved, her rashes have gone, and shes only had one tummy ache in 3 weeks!.!.compared to feeling sick everyday!.

Im still learning about celiacs disease!.!.so any info posted here would be a great help :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

The test for celiac includes an endoscopy as well as a celiac panel!. Once you're diagnosed you become a wheat free gluten free diet!. Eating wheat won't kill you, but it can cause serious problems over a period of time!.
I have Celiac disease and I go to the Whole Foods market for gluten free snacks or Fresh n' Wild when I was living in the UK!. I also ordered food from www!.goodnessdirect!.co!.uk
I would just find out if I had it or not and I hope you don't have Celiac because it's a drastic life change!. Eating out is so difficult, restaurants don't want to make menu changes and I can't eat more than a salad many times!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

hi
Coeliac disease, is when you cannot eat any foods with gluten in it so basically its a gluten intolerance!.
my granny and my great aunt both have this disease, they have to be very careful in with what they eat, they also have to avoid cross contamination!. this is when someone has touched something with gluten or wheat in it without washing their hands and they touch the food, which would be gluten free by mistake, or out of carelessness
this would meant that the coeliac would become unwell, usually they would get tired or sick and that would last for maybe 3 days!.
there really isn't anything to be scared of!.
don't worry, if you are diagnosed with it you will probably be sent to a dietiton where you will be told what foods you can and can't eat and you'll understand it more now!.
hope this helps!
good luck, and don't worry!
p!.s!. if you live in ireland this will be a great help to you!.

Coeliac (spelt with an o) is an auto-immune disease where the immune system attacks the body tissues!. It can have an effect on lots of other parts of the body, not just the stomach and bowels!. A friend of mine has it and has intolerance to wheat gluten products (and a few other things too!.) Its a lifelong condition which can be managed really well with diet and medication!. Have a look at the NHS site below which is called Heron, to find local groups who can help provide support for you in your area not only for Coeliac disease but for IBS too!.
There is lots of info on the web, but you should speak to your doctor before doing any this!. Irritable bowel syndrome is a lot different!. Flare ups are not life threatening, just uncomfortable!. Don't panic!. It may just be your IBS!. Find out for sure to put your mind at rest!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
