Head lice Help what can I do?!

Question: Head lice Help what can I do!?
Hi There, My 4 year old daughter goes to daycare, and occasionally she comes home with head lice, I try everything I make sure her hair is always up tight and I also spray it with hair spray and she still seems to get them, I tell the daycare that she got them but they don't do anything about it, I make sure that they are all gone before sending her back, then she gets them again!. Why is it that the parents that check there child's hair and treat them that suffer, not to mention the tourture the poor child must be going through!. Any ideas how to make the parents know to check there childrens hair!?!?!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's difficult for a daycare or school to completely eradicate head lice!. They tend to go round in circles!.

However, they should absolutely make parents aware that head lice are going round to give them a chance to deal with it!. Perhaps there are other parents who are unaware that their child has head lice!. It's not torture to have head lice-they just make your head mildly itchy, the same as if your scalp is dry!.

But try and avoid chemicals (they become immune and it's not good for your hair) and try using tea tree oil!. They really don't like it, and if you can find a tea tree oil shampoo then your child's hair will retain some of the smell and should discourage any more head lice!.

It's a hazard of lots of kids in one place!. It can't always be sorted out easily!.

You don't have to anything about bedding/soft furnishings/soft toys, contrary to popular opinion!. Head lice cannot live off the head!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

That is the big problem with daycare! Either you can pull her out, work nights, and get an at home babysitter or stock up on lice treatment!. It's not your fault!. It just goes with the territory!. It is up to the daycare to put out notices when there is a problem and clear the child who has the lice!. You can try and put your child in a daycare that is more diligent than others!. Some don't really care!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

use a special nit shampoo to make sure that you got all of it!. Keep her hair up and use hairspray like you've been doing!. When she has it, take all the brushed in the house that she may have used or any hair stuff and put it in a half bleach half water solution, to kill any living nits!. Then put her bed sheets, pillow case into the washing machine with HOT water!. That will clean it!.

As for at daycare, you should tell other parents that she has been getting from there and that you recommend that they check their childWww@Answer-Health@Com

If your daughter has head lice u can be sure that other children have it as well , i would actually try and bring it up with the other parents there , u can now buy headbands and hair ties , they last 8 weeks , and they have a natural product in the material to prevent head lice , u could check that out and buy some !.

Good luck with it !. Www@Answer-Health@Com

either buy a head lice repellant spray or mix tea tree oil with water and spray every morning as they hate the smell, this is what i use and we've had no issues for a few weeks now!.
it is the daycares responsibility to either send letters out or put up a sign informing parents of an outbreak but ultimately its the parents who fail and think it's nothing!.
just keep doing what your doing!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

In our egalatarian society we are not allowed to exclude kids because they are neglected and may infect others!. Malathion containing shampoos are the recommended commercial thing, but frankly, a heavy soap [not detergent] lather left in the hair for about 20 minutes and then washed out with any shampoo may do the trick as soap tends to break down the insect's exoskeleton!. It works for fleas too!.

This is one reason day care is not a good idea - it is the lowest common denominator of care!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Get rid of them with a chemist lice killer and then spray her hair every day with tea tree!. The lice hate it!. I have been using it on my kids for two years and they havent got nits once since - honest it is brilliant!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

okay go to a drug store and get a special shampoo(it comes with a little comb) and use that!. then if she still gets it then remove her from the daycare!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

hi mum
my wife has being spraying tea tree oil on or kids two times a week and every day when we know of some one got them
for about five years and it really work
good luck Www@Answer-Health@Com

First of all I would remove your child from this daycare!. Is it a state licensed one!? I would report them!. They need to shut down and thoroughly clean the entire building, capets, toys, chairs, etc!. This is wrong! My daugher goes to daycare every day along with 30 other kids and she's never gotten lice!. They are not doing their job to protect the kids!. This is so wrong!

I had lice when I was a kid and the over the counter stuff did not work!. My mom had to get me prescription Lindaine shampoo!. Hair spray does NOT kill lice!. This is a myth!. Nothing kills them but the poison in lice shampoos!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have had a lot of experience with head lice when 3 of my children were at primary school, I researched all the chemicals and decided they weren't for my children!. I experimented with all sorts of natural things and the best deterrant I could find was to put drops of tea tree and lavender oil in the shampoo and conditioner!. I only washed their hair once a week!. Before going to school I would put some conditioner in their hair before I put it up (for girls) or spiked it (for the boy) and leave it in all day!.
To get rid of lice I use conditioner in dry hair and comb it with a nit comb every 5 days until they are gone!. We sit out in the sun to remove the eggs pulling them out with my finger nails down the hair shaft!. I use this time to have some great chats to my kids and practice their times tables!.
You can not make others treat or check their childrens hair, you can share your ways of dealing with it and that may encourage people to do it!.
Good luck, happy scratching (my head always gets itchy when I talk about nits!)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Alas it goes with the territory!. A few people have said that it slows down or stops early to mid primary (7 to 10 years of age)!.

I had lice as an adult about two years ago and it itched like mad and I lost chunks of scalp but a certain number of kids have no symptons at all!.

Go to the chemist and get a lice / nit comb!. Plastic versions come with the various shampoos and conditioner treatments!. These break easily so if your daughter has thick hair or seems to be getting them a bit you might want to "invest" in a metal type comb which will last longer!. Use with plain old conditioner (the el cheapo brands work perfectly) as they stun the lice for about 20 minutes and lets you get them out!. Use with lice treatment for two weeks or as per recommendations and wash bedding!.

Also things that work for you may or may not work for you but will for others and vice versa so might be a bit of trial and error!.

Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
