Does aspartame in diet soft drinks really cause cancer?!

Question: Does aspartame in diet soft drinks really cause cancer!?
Answers:
No!.

A review in the medical journal "Critical Reviews in Toxicology" last year reported the following:

"Critical review of all carcinogenicity studies conducted on aspartame found no credible evidence that aspartame is carcinogenic!. The data from the extensive investigations into the possibility of neurotoxic effects of aspartame, in general, do not support the hypothesis that aspartame in the human diet will affect nervous system function, learning or behavior!. Epidemiological studies on aspartame include several case-control studies and one well-conducted prospective epidemiological study with a large cohort, in which the consumption of aspartame was measured!. The studies provide no evidence to support an association between aspartame and cancer in any tissue!. The weight of existing evidence is that aspartame is safe at current levels of consumption as a nonnutritive sweetener!."Www@Answer-Health@Com

The final report of a seven-year study on aspartame (also known as Nutra-Sweet or Equal) has linked it to high rates of lymphomas, leukemias, and other cancers in rats!. The rats were given the equivalent of four to five bottles of diet soda a day for a human!.

The carcinogenic effect of aspartame was found at levels as low as 400 parts per million, or about 20 milligrams a day for humans!. This is far less than current daily limits in America (50 milligrams) and the UK (40 milligrams)!.

Dr!. Mercola's Comments:

No matter what the industry claims, the evidence against aspartame keeps mounting and mounting!. Artificial sweeteners are among the worst "foods" you can eat, and aspartame itself is arguably the very worst of a very bad lot!.

Even though aspartame has no calories, it does cause the release of insulin!. So if you use it to loose weight, you will fail because your body craves more sugar for the insulin to store as fat!. If you use it for type 2 diabetes, you are making it worse through the insulin release and the subsequent increase in your insulin resistance!.

No!. They contain a chemical that is dangerous for some people!. It says right on the bottle or can "phenylketonurics: contains phenylalimine!." Phenylketonurics are people who can't handle phenylalimine!. But I suspect if you were one of those, you'd know it and you'd stay away from aspertame-sweetened stuff!.

Cyclamates were found to cause cancer in Canadian lab rats about 40 years ago and were taken off the market!. They are legal in other countries, countries that have cancer rates lower than we have, so they couldn't be all that bad!. But aspartame has never really been shown to be dangerous except to phenylketonurics!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Aspartame has been shown to cause cancer in mice, when given in large quantities!. This translates to several liters per day of diet soda, *if* it has the same effect on humans that it has on mice!. There have been no human studies showing that aspartame can give us cancer!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Aspartame is suspected of causing a number of medical problems!. The main problem with it is that it tastes bad!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
