Question: My cousin, Buford, had to have his lungs drained!!!
We live in the deep South, and colds and such, are not all that common, because we don't get out much, and its a very small town!. As a result we don't know all that much about these things like people up North, who have to deal with it every winter!
Last winter Buford came down with a terrible cold, and the doctor said it developed into double "Ammonia" in both his lungs!.
At the hospital, the doctor said he had to "drain" Buford's lungs, and it helped save his life!
My question is simple, and I should know the answer, but don't!. I Googled "Ammonia Lungs" and, for sure, Ammonia in your lungs is a really bad and dangerous thing, but the site gave no advice on treatment!.
My question is: Where, exactly, are the drains to your lungs!?
My brother is a union plumber, and he says draining the water heater once a year results in a longer tife!. Wouldn't it seem to follow that doing the same thing to your lungs would prolong your life!?
I know I'm no doctor, but I'm no dummy either! New ideas don't scare me!. Why don't we drain our lungs regularly!?

Your cousin had double "PNEUMONIA"!! I have never known anyone to have their lungs drained for pneumonia only pleural effusions!. Pneumonia is treated with antibiotics, fluids and bronchiole hygeine therapy!. Pneumonia is a build up of fluid or some foreign matter in your lungs!. While your question is quite interesting, you would not need to drain the lungs every year, because a normal, healthy pair of lungs do not have build up of fluid in it!.

I hope that the way that you wrote in here is not making fun of people from the south!. I live even further south than you!. Louisiana and not far from the Gulf!. I don't know too many people who talk like you write!. The few that I do know that talk like that are not smart enough to know how to get on the internet much less Yahoo! Answers!. I too am from a small town!. I only graduated with 63 people!. Most of the people from my town are well educated and have done well for theirselves!. There is no actual drain to the lungs!. The doctor has to use a tap with a nozzle kind of like you see when they tap a maple tree for sap!. You are right ammonia is very irritating to the lungs and can cause serious problems!. Also it would probably be a good idea to rountinely drain the lungs but it is very expensive especially for white trash southerners!. My prayers are with Buford, good luck!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
