Question: Can Diabetic patients eat oatmeal porridge!?
We are old people!. The opinion is to lower cholesterol oats is good!. But some differ about a diabetic patient (my wife) eating oats porridge in semi liquid form!. Is it okay!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
That all depends on the person eating it!. I cannot eat even a teaspoon full of the regular oats, and will not eat them without sugar, cream and butter on them!.

To see how the Oats affects your wife, have her check her glucose before breakfast, eat the Oats, then check again 90 minutes to 2 hours later!. If it spikes her glucose too much, she may have to delete the Oats from her mornings or have much less of the porridge!.

It all depends on each of us to make these choices about how we will control the glucose numbers!.

My grandpa would have died without his standard breakfast: bowl of oats, 3 stewed prunes, 3 slices bacon or 3 sausage links and 2 fried eggs with 2 slices toast or 2 biscuits (aka scones)!. He had that every morning for some 90 years! He made all the cowboys on his wagon crew eat the same thing as well!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, oatmeal is good for diabetics if they only eat a small amount (usually 1/2 cup)!. It is a good carb, and helps to lower cholesterol and lots of fiber!. However, it should be the kind you have to actually "cook", not the instant kind!. Use a sugar substitute to sweeten it!. Only eat once a day!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Generally, oatmeal is great for diabetics!.

But you have to be careful!. pre-packaged mixes often contain too much sugar, which would be bad for the diabetic!.

Check the contents of the package!. If some of the ingredients are sucrose or fructose, you should ask you doctor about the effects it might have!.
