I understand How you feel, my father (who I live with and take care of) has Diabetes!. I always keep the AccuCheck meter by his bed and take it ever couple of hours, but before he goes to bed I always make sure he has some kind of Juice so that it does not drop dramticaly while he is sleeping, and also if he does have a seizure then make sure you have some orange Juice in your house and give him a big glass of it with a table spoon of sugar that will spike it back up, and also you can go to your local drug store, and buy a Glucose Packet, They are just a packet of Glucose and it works it will spike the sugar back up!. I would always say that he needs to take his blood sugar before bed and if it is a little low then drink something sweet!.

I would also say he needs to tell his doctor and go and let him know what is happening so the doctor knows and can do something with either the medication or his Diet to make those stop!.

I hope I help!.!. Good Luck with everythingWww@Answer-Health@Com

First off, I feel for you!. I am a Type 2 and I have been having similar, though not as dramatic, events!.
You didn't give quite enough informaton!. First, how old is your husband and what Type diabetic is he (1 or 2) Is he on insulin shots or oral meds!? If oral, what does he take!? What time does he generally go to bed and for how long!?

Many Type 2 diabetics work so hard on controlling their blood sugar in the 80-130 range they forget that their bodies continue to metabolize while sleeping!. Most often, an adjustment in medication is warrented and resolves the issue!. Also, a snack of a slow burning carb right before bed can work through the night to maintain pretty steady glucoes levels!. Fruit, whole grain breads and even some popcorn can be good snacks before bedtime!. Answer me back with my questions and I will see what help I can give!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You need to talk to his doctor!.

it is my understanding that there IS such an EXPERIMENTAL device!. It uses s small radio transmitter, and possibly talks to a Personal Computer (PC)!. Your husband's doctor would have to locate such a device, IF it exists, and get your husband into the test program!.

BUT !. !. !. !.

Seizure is not a normal symptom of low blood sugar!. I'm not saying that you are wrong, I'm just saying that it is not normal!.

You need to talk to your husband's doctor about this!. There may be something else wrong!. His doctor may want to do some over-night brain studies, possible MRI and CT scans or your husbands brain!.

But you do have a serious problem that needs help from a doctor, not self-diagnosis from the internet!.

I know of no device that will monitor blood sugar without taking a blood sample to test!. What will help, though, is a snack just before sleep!. Peanut butter, crackers, and milk are what we used in the hospital!. Just giving plain sweets will cause the blood sugar to spike, then abruptly drop again!. Carbohydrates (such as the snack I mentioned) will release more slowly and steadily into the system!. Also, you should call his doctor and let him know this is happening!. He may need to adjust the amount or type or time of medicine (insulin or oral agent) he is receiving!.

Good luck, hope this helps! : )Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi!.!.!.I am a type 1 diabetic myself and I can see your challenge!. I don't know of any systems that will monitor your glucose level while you sleep!. Does he take a long acting insulin at night!? How often is he checking his blood!? Does he check it before he goes to bed!? I have had my share of lows and I always wake up before I crash!. Giving me time to drink some juice or something!. I wish I had more info to help you!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is a continuous glucose monitoring system but it is very pricey and he would have to be willing to have it attached to him 24/7!. It gives readings every 5 minutes and alarms when sugar goes too low or too high!. Hope this Helps I know how scary that is!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
