WHAT KIND OF FRUITS AND VEGI'S SHOULD A DIABETIC AVOID!

Question: WHAT KIND OF FRUITS AND VEGI'S SHOULD A DIABETIC AVOID
Answers:
As a type I diabetic for over 14 years I have learned that you can eat almost any vegetable or fruit you want -> BUT, you must pay attention on how it is prepared and how much of it you are eating!. For example: when I eat mashed potatoes, I no longer get 3 large tablespoons of it and smother it with gravy/sour cream and bacon bits - that's way to many carbohydrates=sugar!. Now I get the size of about a computer mouse and add just a little gravy/sour cream and bacon bits!. Dark grapes are eaten 5-6 at a sitting versus half the grocery bag!.

Get with your diabetic treatment teams nutritionist, go on line to either the American Diabetes Associate or your State's Diabetes Association and get nutrition/diabetic diet pamphlets and guides - educate yourself on your food!. We have to learn to watch not only our carbohydrates, but also the glycemic index of our food (how much sugar does this food produce and how fast!.)

What can really help is using your glucometer! It can tell you how you react to different foods and let you discover if other things elevate your blood sugar: stress, illness, pain or other medications (like steroids)!.

Diabetes is a very livable condition, besides, I kinda like being a sweety! (lol)Www@Answer-Health@Com

berries are great but tropical fruit and banana's are an occasional item that i find spikes my blood sugar levels!. But berries i can handle a serving!. not much more than that!. I have not found a veggie that I cannot eat!. I dont really think potatoes are a veggie and i just pretend that the dont exist otherwise I want them, and i cant have them!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Diabetics should avoid any fruit or veggie that spikes their glucose more than say 50 points for a normal serving!. That is 1/2 cup cooked or 1 cup raw is a normal serving!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
