How to get rid of annoying dry, tickling cough - but I am breastfeeding a baby!!

Question: How to get rid of annoying dry, tickling cough - but I am breastfeeding a baby!
I have had this cough for 7 days now and it is particularly horrendous at night!. I can barely sleep!. I would take anything just to suppress the cough so I can sleep, but I am breastfeeding my 16 week old baby so most of the 'chemical' tinctures and drugs are a no no - at least I think they are!.

I rang NHS Direct but they were no help at all ie had I tried elevating my pillows (yes), drinking fluids (yes I always drink lots of water)!.

What can I do!? I am beside myself with exhaustion!. It's ME waking the baby up during the nights with my coughing and spluttering, and not the other way round!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
if you don't have high blood pressure or a water retention problem, keep a salt shaker and a glass of water at your bedside!. When that awful cough sensation starts put a little salt in your mouth, give a few seconds to dissolve!. Swallow the salt, and wait a few seconds before you drink a little water!. Don't use honey, it's bad for the baby until age 1!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you sound like a great mom so you don't smoke do you

we used to be given hot blackcurrant and vinegar with a little butter

love it and it works!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had same problem, i made smoothies with banana, milk and honey!. Worked a treat and i hear the taste goes all the way through your breast milk!Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is one cough mixture that I'm almost certain is safe for breastfeeding and pregnant mother's!. It's a more natural remedy and is a lot cheaper than normal commercial cough mixtures so chemists won't tell you about it unless you ask for it specifically!. It's called Senega & Ammonia!. It's not a nice tasting mixture and you mix it with a little warm water!. It was a slight aniseed taste to it!. It's not too bad!. It helps with dry tickling coughs, I've used it countless times for myself and don't use any other type of cough mixture as I've found it's the only one that actually works!.
I hope it helps and get better soon! Www@Answer-Health@Com
