Depends on the cause!. Acid reflux can be caused from just too much acid production by the stomach which can be helped with diet changes and meds!. Other causes may require surgery of the esophagus or stomach to repair the problem!. In this case, meds don't usually help a lot!. Be sure they run all the tests and checks to find the correct cause and not just keep giving you meds that may or may not work!. Get rid of junk foods and drinks!. Stick with healthy foods, but still try to avoid extremely acid fruits and veggies and spicy things!. Lastly, invest in some Fluoride mouthwash found in your local dental department!. Acid reflux quickly causes major decay in teeth!. A daily fluoride rinse can make all the difference!. Do it at least at bedtime, but preferably morning and night!. Swish, spit, do not eat/drink/rinse for a minimum of 30 minutes!. For severe cases, your dentist can prescribe a fluoride toothpaste that contains more fluoride that you brush on don't rinse/eat/drink for at least 30 minutes also, as well as give you fluoride treatments at your regular cleanings!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I suddenly started getting the same problem when I got pregnant, and I had never had it in my life before!. The thing that really works for me when I get it, is Gaviscon!. Ask your pharmacist for it!. I'm not sure it has the same brand name if you are in the US but it is a pink liquid that has the same smell as pepto bismol!. It can easily be cured with this!. It really helped me!. It can also be affected by certain things in your diet, so make a note of what you've been eating and drinking when you get acid reflux and try to avoid it so that you don't get this problemWww@Answer-Health@Com

Gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) can be caused by too much glutamate in your diet!. You have a valve at the bottom of your esophagus called the Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES)!. When you eat, the LES opens to let food down and once the food is in your stomach, the LES closes to keep the food down!. This opening and closing is operated by amino acids; glutamate makes the LES open and GABA makes it close!. Your body gets glutamate from foods (specifically wheat gluten and milk/cheese) and your body creates GABA from glutamate using an enzyme called GAD!. The GAD enzyme is found in the germ of brown rice; you can even search online for "GABA brown rice" to read more about it!. GABA production can be inhibited by excess folic acid and metals (mercury, aluminum)!. If you have too much glutamate and not enough GABA, the LES valve stays open so you food comes back up (causing reflux)!.

The first thing to do to balance glutamate and GABA is to reduce the amount of glutamate you consume!. So instead of eating bread and pasta, eat your meals with brown rice!. Also try to avoid milk and cheese!. You could try a GABA supplement and/or a grape seed extract supplement too!. Oh and avoid MSG (monsodium glutamate), which is in foods like KFC and Doritos!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I started getting acid reflex a few years ago and it did not seem to go away!. I started taking Nexium daily (one pill a day) and it's completely gone!. You can get Nexium with a prescription from your doc and it did wonders for me! Why I got acid reflex in the first place!? I don't know!. My doctor says it's probably due to my diet!. So try to stay away from spicey foods!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
