Hypothyroidism help?!

Question: Hypothyroidism help!?
I'm 12 years old!. About 4'11 1/2 and 100!.7 lbs!. I have an endocrinologist in NYC Mount Sinai Hospital (Dr!.Rappaport!?)!. I'm so stressed out about my meds and I am always forgetting to take them!. I take them every day (88mcg)!. Well, I try to!. I usually take them everyday but every once in a while I skip!. I decided to take them in the morning because they seemed to give me some type of insomnia!. I still think I have insomnia some how cause I can never go to bed before 2am-4am!. Usually, it's 4am!. I think I'm a tad fatter then I should be!. I don't like needles (I think that was irrelevant)!. I researched it on the web and it says some things I have are side-effects of taking my meds!. I don't think I take the synthyroid medication (brand)!. The pill bottle says Levothyroxine 88 Mcg!. I was diagnosed around the age of 2!. I had a big bump on my throat and I still have one where my thyroid gland is but it's smaller!. I don't think it's too serious because my doctor says it's under control!. I went to him around a week ago!. What's your opinion on my condition!. Are the symptoms relevant to the medication at all!? Doctor says it's fine and i'm okay but I really don't know!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Your symptoms are concurrant with hypothyroidism!. It runs in my family, both sides so I guess I'm doomed!. Just DONT stop or forget your medication!. My aunt always kept forgetting and she told her doctor and he said "don't you realize this is life or death!?" As young as you are it could have serious repercussions to your growth!. I'm so sorry you have to go through this so young!. You may have to work out and eat better than most kids to stay thin because of your problem but it will help you to be healthier in the long run!. But this is very serious at any age!! With all the stress you have seeing a counselor or having a very close friend to talk to would be very good for you!.

Let me say first off that your spelling for a 12 yr!. old is really good! Anyway, yes levothyroxine does not come without it's side effects but it does more good for you than bad!. Since it is a drug that must be taken on an empty stomach at least 30 to 60 min!. before you eat, I take mine in the middle of the night!. I usually wake up once in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and that is when I take mine!. Every night before going to bed, I let it out with a little plastic cup in my bathroom and when ever I wake up to go, that is when I take it!. That way, when I get up in the morning I don't have to wait to eat, take my calcium or vitamins!. When I first started to take it, I started having strange dreams, but over time that has subsided!. This is a drug that should be taken every single day or your body gets out of whack! Find a time or system that is right for you and stick with it!Www@Answer-Health@Com

if he tells you that your thyroid is under control and you dont think so ask your mom to take you to a different doctor for a second opinion - find out if your meds will interact with sleeping meds but only use sleeping meds as a last resort

try taking melatonin - OTC found in almost all vitamin stores and wal-mart - it will help regulate your sleep wake cycle but it takes 3 weeks to kick in - talk to your doctor about your symptoms - its bad to be shy because if you dont tell them all your symptoms then they could miss something

best of luck to youWww@Answer-Health@Com

My mum had hyperthyroidism!.

Not the same!.!.!.!.but I know that hypothyroidism can cause weight gain!., as for sharp pains and falling!.!.!.it's possible they are somehow linked!. It sounds like a painful muscle spasm, and muscles are effected by thyroxine or whatever it is secreted by the thyroid!. Have you told your Dr about this!? As for insomnia!. It may be linked too, but it could more easily be due to stress and developing bad habits like waking up too late in the morning, going to sleep too late at night, eating too late at night!. Google "sleep hygiene" to find out more!.!.!.Anyway it may also be good to find another endocrinologist Dr, even if the one you are going to is the best it's good to get second opinions!. It may also be worthwhile finding a sleep specialist or some other Dr who is not an endocrinologist because you need someone who wil see how your body is functioning from a different perspective!. Apart from that Remember to take your medicine on time! Goodluck hun!. =]Www@Answer-Health@Com
