Do i have meningitis or something similar to it?? (please read below)!

Question: Do i have meningitis or something similar to it!?!? (please read below)
I'm pretty scared if i have meningitis or something similar to it!. I'm 14 years old, and i feel some pain in my neck, especially moving it down a lot!.

Another thing is, when i watch some tv or go on the computer for some time and then go off it, i feel a lot of dizziness in my eyes that happens for like 5-8 seconds, then goes away!.

However, it doesn't seem to effect my daily routine at all!.

But how i think i got it- one day in school, someone kinda "hugged" me in a really weird way, to put it simply!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
You don't get meningitis from hugging people, no matter how wierd the hug!. Don't worry!.

If you had meningitis, you would have the worst headache you have ever had!. That is the over riding symptom!. Meningitis means inflammation of the meninges, which are the layers around the brain and spinal cord!. The pain gets worse when you put your chin to your chest because you are stretching the meninges at the back of the neck, but it is far more likely that in your case you have a muscle pain!.
If you had meningitis, you would also notice that you hate bright light like the devil right now, that you feel sick and that you feel very confused and generally not in a state to be using a computer!. You might also have a rash!. If you are worried, check your whole body!. If you find a purple rash, press against it with a glass!. If it stays purple, worry!. Actually call an ambulance first and then worry!. The chances of this sound pretty unlikely from your symptoms though!.

The computer/TV/eyesight problem is probably unrelated!. If this happens as you stand up to watch the TV it is probably the standing, rather than the TV that is causing the problem!. If you feel generally dizzy, it is because your blood pressure drops as you stand up!. Try standing up slowly and see if this helps!.
If it really is just your eyes and if it happens when you are still sitting down, it is because you are staring too hard at the screen for too long!. Sit yourself a decent distance away from the screen and take regular breaks!. Just spending ten seconds of every 5 minutes looking into the distance will help!. The eyes aren't designed to focus so hard on something so close for so long, so they don't enjoy staring at computers all day!. You might also notice that it is impossible to just look normally at a computer screen, you have to stare!

Wow, I have written a lot!. The good news is that if you are still reading, you can't have meningitis!. As for the "or something similar to it," there really is nothing, so don't worry!.

I concur with CFS that it's not your CSF (the fluid in the spinal cord)! If you had meningitis, you'd be too sick to be looking up the symptoms of meningitis!. Both of my kids have come running to me in fear after they saw the commercial for Menactra (something about being fine one day and dead the next!.!.!.lovely ad campaign)!. Spending enough time on the computer (googling meningitis symptoms) or in front of the TV can cause neck pain and eye fatigue ; I didn't need med school - just a 15 year old son who presents with the same symptoms to make that diagnosis!. You can rest easy tonight that a)you won't have to ruin one of the last few days of summer by spending it in the pediatrician's office and b) you're going to live!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
