My son had lost his language!. He began being obsessed with animals and dinosaurs!.He would line them up, catagorised in perfect order!. He would pour sand from his fingers for hours!. He would echo what he heard in cartoons, but would not answer questions or follow directions!.He would not respond to his name!. He would use my finger to point!. He would scream allot!.He appeared to be withdrawn and would not play with me or any one else!. He would watch the same thing over and over on tv, and repeat line for line!. He would hum background music to movies verbatum!. He would only eat the same thing and not try anything else!. He refused to comply or do things I knew he could do!. I was repremmanded for calling him stubborn, by the first assessor!.Eddie was about 19 mos!. old when I became concerned!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

At two years of age, these are common signs to look for (but having one or two of them doesn't definitively mean your child will be autistic):

Ignoring people
Preference for aloneness
Lack of or impaired eye contact
Lack of gestures (e!.g!. pointing to objects)
Lack of emotional expression
Lack of age appropriate play with toys

One problem is that autism signs can be similar to other problems, such as simple delayed development!. Diagnosis of autism has changed a lot over recent years, and this is one reason some researchers feel that there are increasing numbers of children diagnosed - simply because there is a wider definition of autistic symptoms!.

You can be certain of one thing: there is a huge amount of misinformation from well-meaning, but very misguided sources on the internet about autism, especially when vaccines are mentioned!. One famous study showing a link was extremely biased - so much that it was completely discredited (the author, Andrew Wakefield, actually faced professional misconduct charges)!. Follow-up studies on a much larger scale and without the prejudice of the original failed to find any link at all!.

All the latest autism research shows a strong genetic component, although it is still poorly understood!.

Stick to credible educational organisations when sifting through it all, like the very reputable university below!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
