80 to 110 is the desired range, and this is measured before eating!.

If it is low, this is hypoglycemia, aka low blood sugar!. This is not good, and means that the person needs to eat/drink some high sugar (aka glucose) food and then follow it up with a high protein snack!.

If it gets very low, the person must go to a hospital and get intravenous glucose, because once it gets past a certain point one it is difficult to think clearly, and a coma is possible!.

If it is high, this means that there has not been enough glucose in the person's system to utilize all the sugar in the blood!. In this case a diabetic would administer some insulin!.

There are a variety of schedules for insulin administration!. A common method is called Sliding Scale!. The person measures his/her insulin, and that number determines how much insulin to inject!. Some inject pre-breakfast and at bed time, some inject throughout the day!. Depends on what works best for controlling glucose levels!.!.!. the name of the game!.

There are also insulin pumps which pump a continuous flow of insulin!.

There are people who spend their whole lives studying diabetes, so this is just a nutshell-version!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm a T1 and depending on where you live and what meter you use, Mine is low when on the range of 46-80,I drink OJ or orange soda to get it up fast, and a high for me 250-HIGH (meter reading) and I take extra insulin each hour until it comes down to 200 then continue to check each hour until safe!.
I have a sliding scale that I use for my injections and its never the same each day because I tend to run highs!. I do inject at each meal and at bedtime because that's my high time!.
Thanks for asking and for being a good friend to your diabetic friends we all could use some extra understanding and TLC!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
