When Gina's low I treat her a fast acting sugar (something that doesn't have to be digested)!. Fast acting sugars start working within about 15 minutes!. Gina gets 1/2 cup of juice when we're home and I keep a tube of frosting in my pocketbook for a real emergency when we're out!. Couple squirts does it!. I get thumbed for that all the time because it's not a health conscious choice!.!.!. watch lol!. But frosting is light and portable, and can remain room temperature!. She doesn't like those diabetic glucose tabs or gel!.

People will tell you hard candy is the way to go, but never do this not knowing how low the person is!. They can easily choke!. Always follow up a fast acting treatment with a more substantial (digestable) snack!. Like peanut butter crackers, or toast!.

If she's high I give her insulin!. If she's just a little bit high but going to be playing in the yard, depending on the number and how humid it is out, I'll let it go!. I want her on the high end of normal if she's going to be running around!.

As said above, never excercise when low!. But never exercise when too high either!. Insulin and sugar free liquids are how to treat a high!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

When your blood sugar is low the last thing you want to do is run around!. Lows are treated with a food/drink that has carbs in it!. When a type 1 diabetic has a high blood sugar, they usually treat it with a shot of fast acting insulin (which is the same insulin they take with every meal)!. Exercise also helps to lower it!.

EDIT: in response to Sandy H: Typically a type 1 diabetic recognizes when they're having a low blood sugar and are able to treat it themselves without the help from someone else!. If they do collapse from a low, you should give them a shot of glucagon (if they have it) and/or call 911!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

if you know people with diabetes why not ask them!?!? But my understanding is if the blood sugar gets to low from say not eating then they will sort of shut down and collapse, you can see the physical signs of it if you know the person well, this is when you feed them jelly beans lollies anything sugary, but if it gets to high that is when they will need to use insulin (I think thats how its spelt) but if I were you I would ask my friends with diabetes what I should do if anything happens whilst with them I am sure they will find it reassuring that you want to help if something did happen!.

When my bloodsugar's low (in hypoglycemia), I usually drink some juice if available, if it's not, I take a glucose tablet or two!. Depending on how low it gets, I alter how much I in-take!.

When my bloodsugar's high (in hyperglycemia), I take fast-acting insulin to lower it!. Depending on how high it is (the higher it is, the worse I feel) I exercise a bit also (if it's too high to where I feel too bad, I usually just lay down and wait 15mins for the insulin to take effect)!. low: drink juice/soda (only like 1/2 cup) or eat smarties candy (some people use "glucose tablets" which are just expensive, glorified smarties)
high: depends on how strict you are with your numbers!. mild: just don't eat anything, wait for it to come down, extreme: give yourself a shot right then!.
the exercise (run around/rest) that you mentioned doesnt really have much of an immediate effect!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

when u get low, to the point that u feel dizzy, sweaty and disoriented and u should drink about a 4-6 oz cup of juice or soda, even if u have some jelly, that will shoot ur blood sugar back up!. if it's too high, then u need to quickly get it under control maybe by taking a little more insulin!. exercising (such as walking) also helps to regulate it!. It's always a good idea to try and walk after a meal, my grandma used to do it all the time to help control her blood sugar without having to take so much insulin!. they sell glucose tablets which are always good to have in ur purse, car, backpack, etc!. incase ur sugar gets too lowWww@Answer-Health@Com

Low blood sugar is below 3 and high is over 8mm!. If it's low you eat some carbs, and the sugar comes back to normal!. If your reading is high ,you have had too much fatty or carbs, and your body can not proses them fast enough!.Then it causes damage to your body!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
