Answers:
I was the same when I was your age, many teenagers are because you just want to be normal and spontaneous!. I'm now 41 and in pretty good shape, but I know I did damage to my body during my younger years!.!.!.live and learn, as they say!. Food can be your downfall, but it doesn't have to be if you count your carbohydrates carefully and give yourself accurate doses of insulin and monitor your BG's several times a day!. A few pieces of advice I hope you take to heart:

1!. Don't think of BG monitoring as tests that you're going to fail!. Think of it as keeping an eye on your BG's and an opportunity to correct them if they are high or low!. I used to hide my head in the sand and not test very often because I was afraid to see bad numbers!. Now when I see bad numbers I am thankful to catch it now so I can correct it, and I look for patterns that I can learn from and make adjustments if needed!.

2!. Don't fall into the trap of worrying too much about your weight!. Too many Type 1 girls, and I was one of them for years, avoid controlling their BG's tightly because they know it might make them put on a few pounds!. It's better to be a few pounds heavier than you'd like than to keep your BG's elevated and damaging your blood vessels!. It's like maple syrup running through your veins! This is called diabulimia, and it's very damaging!.

3!. Enlist a couple of good friends to help remind you to check your BG's and give yourself insulin!. Try to identify the times of day when you're most forgetful, and have them just say "Hey, how's your BG doing!?" It can really help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm 50 something, diabetic and my health is pretty darn good right now!. I now take insulin, which has been a great choice!. When I was first diagnosed 16 years ago, I went through the denial stage, ate what I wanted!.!.!.!.I was doing all the wrong things!. Finally, I got wise, and started taking my meds like I was supposed to and watched what I ate, and started to exercise!. I was never over weight, so I didn't have to diet for that, but I had to learn to eat less carbs!. Today, I follow the South Beach diet, I take insulin, and walk 5 miles every day!. When I first went on insulin, I used to forget to do my injections also!. I started putting a syringe on the counter, or some place I knew I would see it to remind me to inject my insulin when I was supposed to!. That worked well for me!. Sometimes I discover a food that will raise my blood sugar more than I had anticipated!. Usually it is something that I haven't eaten for a long time!. I keep track of everything in my log book!. I write down my blood sugar levels, what I ate, and include my walk and any other exercise I get!. Writing down your food shows you what you have eaten, and how much!. Sometimes you will be shocked to find that you have actually eaten more than you thought you did!. You will find things that will work for you by trying different stuff!. Keep trying!. Your diet is very, very important!. Get a dietitian or a nutritionist to help you and take a few diabetic ed!. classes!. The more you know about your disease, the easier it is to control!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am 61 in fairly good health, have some problems right now as I have been tobacco abuser too many years and am now starting on steroids which I expect will blow all my control of glucose, blood pressure, etc out the window in a month or two!. I inject insulin and take my oral meds on schedule and eat properly most of the time!.

My biggest downfall is going to fairs and festivals and finding suitable foods to eat during the days of demonstrations!. I am an off campus educator and represent the wool industries!. Do spinning and weaving demonstrations!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i'm 56!. been diabetic for 22 years!. i also have problem with eating the wrong foods!. I'm pretty good about taking my shots and other medications, but I haven't always been that way!. I now take 6 shots a day -- 2 of Lantus and 4 of Humulin R!. My blood sugars are in control now, but I have already done the damage!.

I have to have laser surgery in my eyes every 6-8 months to stop the bleeding and keep me from going blind!.!. I am in Stage 4 kidney failure!. The poisons build up in my system, and I can barely function long enough to put in a 8-hour work day!. I'm going in October to have a fisutla installed in my arm so I can start dialysis, but doctor says I won't be able to play drums again!. Doctor says I might be a candidate for a transplant IF I can lose another 15 pounds, but then you have to take all those anti-rejection drugs, and take the chance of dying from a cold!

If YOU don't want to end up like me when you're 40, you'll make a very serious effort to clean up your act NOW, before it's too late!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Gina's health is okay, despite the diabetes of course!. Her biggest struggle/downfall is the roller coaster numbers!. She is so insulin and carb sensitive!. The pump and CGMS has alleviated some of this!.

The one up-side I've noticed is she doesn't make hyperglycemic ketones!. She does make starvation (vomiting/diarrhea) ones though!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
