Lantus is a long acting insulin and it takes awhile for it to start working!. I would talk to your doctor, you may need an adjustment in your medications!. You may also be eating too many carbs in your last meal or snack!. Talk to your doctor, don't try to figure it out on your own!. This is why you have a doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

One really nice feature of Lantus is that it makes finding the correct dose easy!. Because of its very stable 24 hour action, the dose is gradually increased until the fasting or before breakfast blood sugar has been normalized!. If low blood sugars occur during the night and they are not being caused by a dose of fast acting insulin taken during the evening hours, the dose of Lantus would be gradually reduced until the lows stop!.

Similar to the basal rate of an insulin pump, the Lantus dose can be checked by skipping a meal during the day, but the real test for whether the dose is accurate comes from stable, flat overnight blood sugars!.

Once the Lantus dose has been determined, the doses of premeal Humalog, Novalog, Starlix, etc!. would then be adjusted to keep postmeal blood sugars normal!. With a stable background insulin, carb counting becomes especially helpful as a way to decide on the insulin dose before each meal!.
The microprecipitates allow small amounts of insulin to be released slowly, resulting in a relatively constant concentration/time profile over 22 hours +/- 4 hours with no pronounced peak in activity!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Lantus is a BASAL insulin and works in the background all during the about 24 hours it is in the system!. It does not peak appreciably!. Lantus needs to be injected at the exact same hour every day and isn't adjusted very much!.

Fast acting insulins or medium acting insulins are BOLUS insulins and used to handle the high numbers like what you are talking about!. They are based on the glucose number and or the grams of carb in your foods!.

I suggest you go back to the doctor's office or the CDE's office and get more instructions on controlling your glucose numbers!. And more instructions on taking the insulins!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Lantus can be annoying sometimes - I have the same problem!. It sounds like you should be taking more lantus though if your blood sugar can't stablize with fast acting insulin!. Don't increase it more than 2 units a night at a time!. If you still have problems your endocrinologist will help you at your next appointment!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi!.!.!.I use Lantus as well!.!.!.!.!.how many units are you taking and when are your taking it!? Keep in mind Lantus is a basal insulin only!. Its not fast acting at all!. Its a much slower release than a fast acting insulin like Humalog!. I take 25 units everynight before bed and wake up at around 110!. Maybe you need to increase the nightly dosage!.

Good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

Here's a link to the Lantus website: http://www!.lantus!.com/!. Read over the safety concerns at the bottom of the page!. Sounds like you are taking too much since this is an once a day medicine!.

I would contact your doctor and get an appointment scheduled!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

lantus is long acting, it releses slowly over the corse of the day, so you dont have crazy peeks and drops!. novolog is the short acting, thats wat you would wanna take to bring you blood sugar quickly!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
