Herpes question, PREGNANCY?!

Question: Herpes question, PREGNANCY!?
im 37 weeks pregnant and found out at about 27 weeks that I am a carrier for the herpes virus!. me and my hubby have been together since we were 16, neither of us has ever had a cold sore or any type of outbreak untill I did with this pregnancy , so we are not sure how or when we got it!. The doctor says I have to have a ceaseran because he has to assume that this was a primary infection since ive never had symptoms before!. Could I have had it for a long time and just had my first outbreak!? (me and my hubby has been together 6 years) also what is the risk of spreading it to my baby since im having a c-section, should i never kiss my child because i may have herpes on my mouth and be shedding the virus even though i have no symptoms!?!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

The biggest concern with genital herpes during pregnancy is that you might transmit it to your baby during labor and delivery!. Newborn herpes is relatively rare (about 1,500 newborns are affected each year), but the disease can be devastating, so it's important to learn how to reduce your baby's risk of becoming infected!.

You can transmit herpes to your baby during labor and delivery if you're contagious, or "shedding virus," at that time!. The risk of transmission is high if you get herpes for the first time (a primary infection) late in your pregnancy!.

Much less commonly, you can transmit the virus if you're having a recurrent infection!. If you've ever had a herpes outbreak, the virus remains in your body and can become reactivated!.

In rare cases, a pregnant woman may transmit the infection to her baby through the placenta if she gets herpes for the first time in her first trimester!. If a baby is infected this way, the virus can cause serious birth defects!.

About 5 percent of cases of newborn herpes are contracted after birth, and it can be just as dangerous as herpes contracted during labor!. But you can usually prevent this if you take care!.

Make sure people always wash their hands before touching your baby, and never let anyone with a cold sore kiss, nuzzle, or hold your baby!. (Any kind of herpes can be dangerous for a newborn, including the kind that causes cold sores!.)

If you have an outbreak anywhere on your body, cover it well to prevent contact with your baby's skin and thoroughly clean the surrounding area!. Wash your hands frequently and carefully, because herpes can be spread from hand to mouth!.

It's possible, though somewhat rare, to get a herpes sore on your finger, called a herpetic whitlow!. Anyone with a herpetic whitlow should avoid touching a baby!.

Hope this helps!Www@Answer-Health@Com

with herpes you do have to have a Caesarian!. and yes you could have been carrying the virus for many years with out ever knowing it, usually the first time you are ever exposed to it is either by your family or the chicken pox!. more than likely one of you gets either cold sores or canker sores and just never acknowledge it!. do not kiss you child on the mouth, or nose, or eyes!. the virus can be passed through saliva also can be passed on by using child's silverware, drinking from the same drink!. and any other bodily fluid contact!. put tooth brushes in separate places, and wash hands before changing diapers, and after going to the bathroom!. research this as much as you can on the web it will really help!. also check out link below!. I understand- you feel frusterated and uncertain about whats going on!. That is very understandable!. First- I can't tell you how you got the virus- but the herpese virus is usually transmitted sexually!. Here is some info from a site that explains what it is:
What is Herpes!?
Herpes is a sexually transmitted disease (STD)!. A sexually transmitted disease is a disease that you get by having sex with someone who already has the disease!. Genital herpes is a viral infection caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV)!. Once you are infected with herpes, the virus stays in your body for life!. You can give herpes to another person if you have sex when your herpes virus is active!. Herpes simplex virus remains in certain nerve cells of the body forever, and can produce symptoms off and on in some infected people!.

I dont know what happened- but I hope you have had a serious talk with your long term partner!. You do not get this from a cold sore- genital herpse is compleatly different!. Herpes can stay droment in the body for a very long time- so it is possible that you have had if for quite awhile with out ever relizing it and this could have been your first outbreak!. Second of all YES you can kiss your child- you can lavish all of the love you want on your baby- because this virous is not spread in that mannor!. They could drink and eat after you as well!. Herpes again is spread by sex- so lavish all of the love you can on your soon to be new bundle of joy!. Also- maybe look up on good "how you get herpes" on google and you will learn more about the virus and how to handel it!. Congrats on your upcoming child- and relax- you and baby will be just fine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
