Question: Migraines and bipolar disorder!?
I know it's a less-common symptom for bipolar disorder, but it's still listed as one!.
Why is it that if you're bipolar you might have a tendency to have more migraines!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Ironically, some of the drugs used to treat migraines are the same thing used to treat bipolar disorder and seizures!. There's a certain implication that they share a mechanism from that!. One way to describe what goes on in the brain is as a 'reverse seizure' where instead of a wave of too much activity, you have a wave of depressed activity - this is where aura comes from!.

Basically, when you have one thing going wrong in the brain, it's more likely that other things aren't working right either!. Migraines are weakly comorbid with mental illness in general!. It's just probable that migraine and bipolar share something of the same 'source' down in brain development or genes somewhere!. The fact is, we don't know -exactly- why!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The causes for bipolar illness and migraines are not very well understood!. The link between the two problems is just an observation that migraines are more common in people with bipolar disorder than the population as a whole!. This linkage suggests that there may sometimes be a common mechanism causing both problems!. The only medical significance to this observation is that some medications used for bipolar disorder may be effective for some people with migraines, and vice versa!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
