unless they have a colostomy bag they cant have a bowel movement on their on i know this is graphic but you asked they have to have a bowel program aka (someone/an aide has to put their finger up there anus and manually get the stool out) Www@Answer-Health@Com
They follow a bowel program that is different for each individual, sometimes simple and quick, sometimes not!. Some tetraplegics have repeated bouts of autonomic dysreflexia resulting from constipation-that's what was going on with Lincoln Rhyme in "The Bone Collector"!.
