Question: What are the 5 stages of cancer!?
People are told they have various stages of cancer what does this mean!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
There are different types of stages depending on cancer type!. In general, there are four stages of cancer not five (although in some cases there may only be three or you may be incorrectly counting stage 0)!. Staging is done to determine the extent or severtity of the disease and helps a doctor decide what type of treatment to plan!.

In order to understand staging you must understand that cancer is a progressive disease!. Cancer starts out as a microscopic malignant cell that begins to grow!. Staging is determined by how much the cell has grown !. !. a stage 1 would be very small nodule or tumor that could be surgically removed with fair ease !. !. a stage 2 is a nodule or tumor that has grown larger and still may be easy to remove !. !. a stage 3 becomes more complicated as the tumor becomes larger and may begin to grow into other tissue !. !. there is now more than one tumor all still in one location !. !. and a stage 4 refers to larger tumors that have 'seeded' hundreds of new malignant cells into the blood stream or lymphatic system and sent metastasis into the body !. !. now new cancer colonies begin to grow in distant locations !. !. and indefinitely repeats itself!.

You can read more about cancer staging at the National Cancer Institute:
http://www!.cancer!.gov/cancertopics/facts!.!.!.

And if you are a visual person !. !. here is a chart to show the stages of colon cancer!. This should give you an idea what other cancer stages would be like as well:

Why do you want to know that in detail!. Clearly its obvious, 1 is the lowest level and 5 means you haven't go long on this mortal coil!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
