From hypos to high glucose readings, advice please?!

Question: From hypos to high glucose readings, advice please!?
my partner oscillates between hypos and high blood sugar!. He is on three injections a day with the long term one taken at night!. I need to know (cant get into clinic for a while) how to balance his meals!. When I do 50/50 protein and carbs he seems to react well!. Is there something else I/we need to be doing as he seems to be uping the units of insulin lately!. We know about the little feeds often, yes it works somewhat!. He has brittle Diabetes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
when you are brittle, the carbs are what causes the problems!. the body over reacts to them, even small amounts make the sugar go sky high!. try just protein, and then the carbs come only from veggies!. if i eat fruit my sugars go up, and if i eat starches and breads, the same thing!. i stick mostly to protein, salad, and veggies!. also, is his sugar real high first thing in the morning!? sometimes if he eats a real small snack before bed, like a cube of cheese, and some carrot sticks or something, it helps keep the sugar lower in the morning!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes, he is very brittle, I would tend to go with 60protien/35 carb/5fat!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sounds like he is on a rapid acting that should be taken 15 mins before a meal, and a background insulin to cover the insulin produced by the pancreas!.

The amount of insulin you need will depend on the exact type of insulin and carbohydrate in the meal!. You need to find out sources of carb, like potato, rice, bread, some vegetables etc, and how much of you insulin you need for that!. Start by finding out the carb content of foods, and counting how much he is having!. write this down along with the insulin dose and the time of day in an exercise book!. Then you will be able to figure out where you are going wrong with the diet,!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
