This is my advice to you, from someone who has been in your shoes before!. You, being her friend, are only one stilt of the foundation of her support group!. As the only one who knows about it, it is up to you to talk to her about her condition!. It is very important that you go into this conversation with her completely prepared and educated!. Genital warts can be dangerous in the long run, and are very contagious if she is continuing to be sexually active without treatment!. Genital warts is caused by a virus, called Human Papilloma Virus, or HPV!. There are about 40 strains if this particular virus, seven on which cause genital warts, and all of which have the potential to contribute to cervical cancer!. The sooner she gets to the doctor to be seen, the sooner it can be treated, the warts can be removed and she can be more comfortable in her own skin!.

HPV can be passed even if protection (ie: a condom) is used during sexual activity, so if she is having sex, even with a condom, she can still be passing it on!.

My best friend was infected with an STD when we were very young!. She was humiliated and disappointed and terrified to tell her parents!. The only outcome of this was the infection getting worse and worse, and eventually she was hospitalized, and her parents found out the hard way, which only made their reaction much much worse!. I tried to convince her to tell her mom, or at least go to the health department!. I even offered to take her and go in to the appointment with her, but she was too scared to go!. It almost killed her!.

I am not saying that your friend is going to die of genital warts, because that is extremely unlikely!. I am saying that as her best friend, you will feel better knowing that you are there for her as much as you can be!. At such a young age, I understand that this is a difficult thing to do, but she has GOT to seek medical attention!.

The worst thing she can do is wait!. The best thing to do is for you to be there for her while she tells them, if thats what she wants!. Tell her to just sit down, relax, and open up to her mom, because she needs treatment, and soon!. Dealing with this viral disease will be much easier for her when she has full support of her mom and her best friend!.

Both of you need to consider the Gardasil shot!. Talk to your mom about it!. It will protect you from several strains of HPV!. Even your friend should get it!. She is infected with a strain of HPV, but there are 39 more that she could contract!. It wont cure her current infection, but it will prevent her from contracting any others!.

Good luck to both of you!. I hope she makes the right choice!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Tell her that if she doesn't want to get her parents involved she can go to Planned Parenthood!. They are protected by strict privacy laws and cannot tell her parents or anyone else!. They can't even let someone know if she is a patient there!. It should either be free or very low cost but have her check it out because most have programs which allow it to be free!. She needs to get herself checked out and get these taken care of!. Tell her to call NOW and make an appointment!. The people who work there will be very nice to her and WILL NOT JUDGE HER or make her feel bad!. They see and treat this everyday and they are very understanding helpful people!. Thank you for being such a good and caring friend to her!. She is blessed to have you in her life! :)Www@Answer-Health@Com
