It's not the cat's fault !. !. !. !.

Diabetics are more prone to infections than other people!. [Some doctors think that diabetes is an autoimmune disease !. !. !.] So ANY cut or scratch get infected more easily!.

But diabetes also causes nerve damage (neuropathy) in the feet, legs, hands, and arms!. Because of this, cuts, scrapes, and punctures don't hurt as bad, so peole don't get proper medical treatment as needed!.

Therefore, cut and scrapes on the feet and legs often get badly infected, and this turns into gangrene (the skin and flesh start to die)!. But since it doesn't hurt, they don;t go to the doctor!.

They don't go to the doctor until it DOES hurt, and by that time it is too late -- the leg has to come off!.

Not to mention that cat's feet are not the cleanest things in the world!. I mean, they DO stand in their poop box , , , ,

But it's not the cat's fault!. God I hope not! I couldn't bear to get of my three boys !. !. !.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Cats are not a risk for a diabetic!. Yes, the scratch may have been the starting point, but as many have pointed out here, it ended up in an infection!.

A diabetic would be at no greater risk having a cat around than anything else that might cause a cut on his/her legs or feet (e!.g!., not wearing shoes around the house or outside!.!.!. Diabetics should ALWAYS wear shoes!)Www@Answer-Health@Com

no no, not at all!.

a diabetic may have cicatrization issues, but a scratch from a cat is no different from any scratch!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is no problem with having a cat around if you are a diabetic!. Diabetics skin just takes slightly longer to heal than normal, but nothing at all to worry about!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No! I have type one diabetes and I have all kinds of animals including a cat!. Don't worry about it!. That cat probably had rabies or some thing!. As long as you take car of cuts then you will be fine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
